Cargo area security with the doors off

I remember reading something about this a while ago. But can't find the thread.

When you have the doors off does the cargo area stay locked if it was locked when you removed the doors? Is the only way to unlock the tailgait is with the key fob?? Or is the tailgait lock disabled with doors off?
