Is this just because you haven't put the top back on? So it's lighter and not weighed down?

Interesting though because mine doesn't feel spring loaded at all so now I'm curious.
That is a very real possibility, I won't know until I put it back together in a few days.

I took mine apart and springs are in the location you show in the photo but mine does not spring open. still falls down as it always has. I just ordered a set of the shims mentioned in the other post. other folks have mentioned it but I think there is a variance in the spring tension that may also impact the ability of it to stay open. hoping the shims solve this issue.
Just for clarification, the shims won't "spring" the console lid open. They provide enough tension such that the console lid won't come crashing down. When you unlatch the console lid, it will raise open about an inch or so. But when raised upright, it will remain upright and won't crash down. Closing it requires a gentle push.

Now, for some, the shims had no effect. In which case, it is postulated that there is enough variance in the springs where it works for most but not all.

I don't think the lid is supposed to spring open. The spring is just a counter balance to keep the lid open when opened and the lid from slamming closed.

Yeah - I figured based on the responses it didn’t spring open. I‘m just looking for it not to slam down but do appreciate the additional clarification that the shims didn’t always solve the issue for some. I will cross my fingers and hope it does though. first world problem, I know, but it’s annoying enough to try and resolve

Move the front seats forward. Sitting in the back seat straddling the console, you can just tug at the back cover. Might need a trim removal tool to get leverage depending on how stubborn the clips are. You can see the 3 clips on each side holding it in place.

Let me start by saying, maybe it's just me, wouldnt be the first time. So I removed the center console lid because I am going to install/apply Redline's leather cover and in the process, may have discovered that the lid came installed incorrectly from the factory three years ago.

I know that I have seen others on here comment how the console lid seems like a bad design because it doesn't stay up on its own. To the contrary, it falls down on you everytime you try to get something out.
After I took the lid off and then popped off the vinyl top half of the lid, I went to put the shell back on temporarily while I get the leather cover on the top half installed. I noticed two spring loads on either side of the console and when I reinstalled the lid (what I think is the correct way) I experienced this phenomena.

Who would have thunk it. I am quite pleased. If no one else has ever had this thought and their console was put together correctly, ignore me.

See video clip:

Alex, You should consider changing your title back. You shouldn't have to apologize for bringing attention to an issue no matter how trivial others might view it as. Your thread brought much needed attention that others were able to realize that what they were experiencing wasn't unique. Keep posting these idiosyncrasies that you discover as it helps others.

I’m going to try it this weekend. I hate the lid design.

It's not necessarily about springing open, it's being the fact that any type of forward pitch downward and the lid will not stay open. It's just really annoying to have it keep falling forward when it should stay open when I have the lid up.

I’m I the only bronco owner whose center console lid stays open because of the pad cover I have on it? Seems the little weight added to the lid keeps it from collapsing back down.

Yes the springs slots are under the yellow shims. My friend printed out a set of the shims that @PorpoiseBlue shared. The shims have an indentation slot where the spring will seat.

The back of the console cover is just a tug back towards where you are sitting. Not up or down - just backward. An even gentle tug should be adequate to unseat the clips. But in some instances, you may need a trim removal tool for leverage.

Thank you. I will take a peek. Mine slams down and has never stood at attention.

I haven't had the issue either since I added the padded top cover.
