Test your theory.

Hold the brake pedal down and the accelerator pedal and press the start button. This will spin the engine over without actually starting and build up oil pressure.

Let it do that for like 5 seconds and then start normal. If the sound went away... Then yes it's a good chance it is your cam phasers.
I tried this. My Bronco still rattles for a second or two at startup.

That is strange. Maybe let it go for 10 seconds? :)

If it's cam phase rattle, pumping up the oil pressure before starting should fix it. Do you get the rattle even after warm starts? (Like starting back up after you left a store or something?)

My Bronco has to sit for a few hours before I hear the rattle again. I’m not sure exactly how long it has to sit, but I’ve heard it again after sitting for 4 hours.

Mine doesn’t have to go that long. It will do it within 2 hrs.

Dealer called me other day. The parts are in and my Bronco goes in for the repair on 3/13. They expect it to take all week as the engine has to be pulled to perform the repair. I’m a little nervous because this their first Bronco with this issue.

My Ford dealer did my Bronco's first oil & filter change at 5,916 miles on January 7, 2023. The first time I heard the rattle was a week or two later, and it scared the crap out of me. I didn't hear the rattle again until last week. My Bronco now rattles every time I start it after it's been sitting a few hours.

I have an appointment next week with my dealer. I don't plan to drive my Bronco again until I take it in.

Could this problem somehow have started with my first oil & filter change?

I’d say no, coincidental yes. The cam phasers are becoming a known issue with the 2.7 just likes it’s big brother the 3.5.

It goes back to the 3.5L Ecoboost. I had the issue on my SHO and never got it looked at and had no issues when I sold it with 100K on it ;)

Man this sucks. At least my pentistar's issue is a pretty straight forward fix (rocker arms)...having to pull the engine just seems overkill.

I would think removing the front grill stuff would be easier ...maybe you can't do that on a ford?

My dealer confirmed my 2022 Bronco’s issue is with the cam phasers. Parts are now on order.

Cam phasers been on order for one week for me today. They also busted my windshield doing the recall as I suspected they would.

Mine is all done. No more rattle! It took them 4 days to complete the fix. I haven't noticed any differences in engine performance or anything. Just glad the rattle is gone.

Did they declare yours safe to drive until parts came in?

Yes. They told me it’s safe to drive while waiting on parts to repair. I put 1500 miles on while awaiting parts.
