M2DZ-10890-A FFS, it's a $40.00 part. Unless it has impact marks from the outside, which it probably won't, it's likely an adhesive or plastic weld induced stress crack. Pick your poison, temp related or just general stress. Stress crack, when void of evidence of mechanical impact or chemical induced failure, can be covered (glass is a different beast but still has limited coverage if a structural failure below it is the cause and within coverage limits).
Damn...Ford actually has a separate lens versus being plastic/laser-welded to the cluster? That is probably one of the best ideas they had for the interior.

If the Ford Bot hasn't offered to help you by now you're SOL.

BTW I took this picture when I noticed it and the next time I was at dealership mentioned it to service who photographed it. I can’t remember how long it took but I was called to come In for replacement. They were great.

I just noticed mine doing this today. Exact same area. Small vertical crack out of nowhere. Unbelievable. Less than a year old. Just over 9k miles. I’m due for an oil change soon and will bring it up when I go in.

Good luck. I eventually got the dealer to do the repair but had to lobby the Service Manager. Their default answer is “it’s not covered” and they will probably assume you caused it.

They've done that previously as well. The clusters on the OBS trucks use a separate cover from the cluster itself. The one in my 96 must have been brittle, because I cracked it when I was installing a cluster with a tach. Thankfully the new cluster came with the spare cover.

Cracks are almost identical
No vendor issue here………
Mine showed up at 11,000 miles photographed it a bit later, took to dealer and had 14k on it by the time part came in and was replaced. No hassle, no issues , straight up warranty replacement. Why do some dealers make such a hassle out of warranty claims!!!!!!

Because Ford is notorious for charging back warranty claims for ridiculous reasons, even if it meets and matches their own documentation saying something should be warrantable.
Easy to blame the dealerships, when in reality it's Ford.

It is understandable that Ford is trying to reduce warranty costs, and putting pressure on dealers to avoid bad warranty claims. Having said that, the dealer should be honest with the the owner to say, our stance is No until Ford approves and then get Ford involved on behalf of the owner. These cracks if no impact mark should be covered. Some dealers just do the minimum, some go all the way and then beyond.

If Ford is denying claims after the repair that should be covered to push cost back onto the dealer, well that's just an example of poorly run company. Fix the quality issues instead of pushing blame / cost around.

Definitely true. Can't really argue with that.

I halfway wonder if, as it looks like with homeowners and health insurance, in the next decade warranties become so cutout and useless that they're effectively no longer offered. Especially if things like tariffs and reshoring drive component costs up and inflation bites hard, also driving wages up.

I don’t see that happening, but who knows

it is hard to say, good thought though. Things are not going well with many OEM's having terrible quality performance. I cant see how something does not change.

As a supplier to all OEM's I can tell you we have tremendous pressure from the OEM's to produce the expected quality. Ironically we have seen issues with OEM's where a design change drove a failure, and then it is the suppliers fault even though the design was followed. Things are guilty till proven innocent, and I really hope all OEM's start to understand the cost benefit of a solid design that is feasible to manufacture makes for a more predictable part performance and cost. IMO the push to lighten, improve performance etc. while adding all the bells and whistles and still cut costs is catching up.

There is a line where expected quality performance dips as allowable cost to manufacture is reduced and designs are pushed to achieve the same goals while using less materials. Eventually it all catches up, and it's not just Ford's problem.
