Hopefully, as a Demo, the dealer has it long enough for what ever is going to happen, to happen. Wouldn't wish the potential headache on any customer. Maybe they epoxy sealed it after sanding to prevent any shifting or shrinkage, if that would even work. Time will tell.I have my thoughts as to how they went about it, and you're probably thinking along similar lines.
It does look nice 'now', but I wouldn't want to be it's new owner once they're able to sell it. (that's all I will say for now)
Yeah I don't know why everyone is bashing this idea, talking like there's no way it will last? As long as it's prepped and painted well, it's going to hold up like a factory painted top.All Wrangler hard tops are painted, even the standard black ones. They're molded in white, then painted black on the outside. AEV has been painting the insides of the tops black for years.
This top looks great. Doing this though will void the warranty. I would be curious if this top was in great shape to start with (no unfinished edges, no delamination, etc.)....I would presume that paint alone will not stop delamination issues that may arise over time. ??? I too will be interested to see how this holds up over time.Updated by @RTLGarage
Shawn C: “Just went on a test drive with Tom Detwiler, pics do not do this thing justice at all. This thing is an absolute beast! Parked next to the 4Runner, 4Runner has 6” lift and 35” tires. Makes me even more impatient for my FE to get here.”
“ Top was painted by the dealer, Dave Sinclair Ford, they are putting a package together for customers to purchase this as an option with them.”
Just don't wax it!!! LMFAO.Those tops will hold up just fine painted, sand, prep solve wipe, adhesion promoter, 2K primer, paint and clear....
When the "experts" here told us this wouldn't work, you believed them right? I'm glad to see someone give it a try and see what happens. You know how it is Rick, "they" think they are so smart.
Is this the MIC top?FYI: Sinclair Ford body shop painted this top.
Not sure how this top will hold up, but I do know I’ve had Rob Halford screeching ‘Screaming, Screaming for Vengeance!!” in my head while reading the past 8 pages of replies.Looks like its made of metal
