I used some ideas from a few different posts and made a custom mud flap that I'm pretty pleased with. I have a 4 door OBX with Sasquatch package and side steps. I frequently drive gravel trails and roads when in the Adirondacks and wanted to protect the paint.
I used a black gym equipment mat from Home Depot that I had previously bought in order to use as a cheap solution for the bed (also worked wonderfully). The material is very durable and flexible.
I first created a cardboard template, and then used 3 existing nylon screw mounts plus 1 additional location inside the fender flare as mounting points. I used #10x1" stainless screws and washers to secure it.
