Little late to this party, but I use a Jet sled now with my f150 and I plan on doing the same thing with the bronco with a hitch basket. If you're going a long distance you could wrap the jet sled in a tarp with the deer inside. The jet sled is nice because all the mess stays inside of it and it makes for easy dragging as well.

Everything gets quartered. Needed for a pack out anyway and even if you can drive to it it's going to need to be cut up sometime. Carry a cheap blue tarp to protect that carpet. When people question how we get such large animals (elk, deer, moose) out of the woods my buddy always answers "Yeah, they're big, but they do come apart"

And seriously, we always leave quarters bagged and open to the air at least until they reach ambient temp. Then if its hot out place in a cooler with ice jugs made from milk jugs so the meat doesn't get soggy. If not hot, hang in the shade in open air.

Great pic! Strong guys. That's a young Elk, still probably 300 pounds at least.
Tough vehicles too!! Imagine standing on the door of a 6G Bronco.

It’s been a long time since I’ve transported a whole animal. A large animal gets quartered for pack out, but deer size game gets quartered where it lays using a gutless method. Everything goes in ice chests in the back.
If I had to for a short distance, a hitch carrier would be my preferred method.
I second this method. Leave the mess in the field and it is the only way to deal with an Elk when help is scarce. Quarters, straps and loins and you are good to go.

😷 put on a mask on the snout if you use a hitch basket, the exhaust will contaminate the whole thing in just a few minutes.....................

Bronco's are not for hunting

Honestly I’d just toss it in the back on a tarp. It’s just blood.

I beg to differ. My Bronco will have me in goat country in MT in October. I think it will handle the job just fine. Did pretty good in May in ID getting into bear country too.

I've hauled dozens of deer on my hitch haul on the back of numerous vehicles and have never noticed any vehicle exhaust smell or taste. I'll be doing the same with the '22 Bronco.
