Apart from just pushing the brake lever the other direction?

Pull - engage
Push - disengage

if you are speaking mechanically - that I do not know

The same switch that engages it also disengages it, you just move it the other direction.

I am intentionally not saying 'push' or 'pull' because Ford changed the switch design in 2022.

Thanks. I got it figured out. In additon to pushing the button you have to press the brake pedal. Living in S Fla I never use a parking brake but after reading the thread about the guy who lost brakes and steering it was time to try it out. I didn't even know where the button was. LOL.

Such a shame that Ford doesn't provide any sort of documentation that explains this stuff.

They could call it something like a 'User Manual'. Hell, with the screens in vehicles now, they could even put a digital version that's searchable and with you all the time.

Glad you got it figured out, too bad it took a 3rd party resource to point you in the right direction.

How do I disengage the e brake?
In addition to using the brake switch in the opposite direction you used to Engel it, the e-brake automatically disengages when you select a gear and begin to drive too.

Mine doesn't work that way. Only way to disengage mine is as OP described in followup - foot on brake while (in my '23) pulling "up" on in-dash lever.

I guess you have an MT. All the autos operate this way…

You have the manual in your car. There is an option on the screen....You just gotta poke around

ford missed the mark on the electric e-brake actuator. why?

if you're offroading and going up an extremely steep hill, for some reason loose momentum, and have to back down... a trick is to partially engage your e-brake so you have more downhill brake bias than uphill. you tend to uncontrollably slide back down a hill when backing down since most of your brake force is now going to the tires pointed uphill, rather than the tires headed downhill.

having the ability to engage 25-50% is a big deal. but with these electronic e-brakes it's 100% on or 100% off.

Wait, what? I just thought I figured out the e-brake from the other thread. So for a 23 wit auto do you push or pull the e-brake AND push the brake pedal? So confused. I so wish for a pull handle or an actual e-brake pedal with a release.

How do I disengage the e brake?
Interesting fun facts about that little switch
1. It's exactly the opposite (the push/pull) of my wife's Subaru Outback. As are all the steering-wheel mounted switches, wands and stalks. Tests and taxes my mental capacity everytime I drive her car!
2. The instructor at the Texas Bronco Off-Roadeo made use of the hand-brake part of the off-road driving process. I hadn't used mine in years, especially since autos got rid of the Volkswagen-style center hand brake and went to the foot pedal. He Stressed how important it is to not use "Park" to hold the car on inclines. So now I find myself using the parking brake lever regularly.

I've seen where some folks feel that pushing/pulling the e-brake harder forced them to break the switch. Use it gently.

For the record we have a parking brake not an e-brake. Just try to use it in an emergency and you'll learn the difference real quick ;)
