No amber only white. Amber only when I hit the mode switch that was supplied with the lights

Ah, I bet if you hook up the red to power and ground the yellow it will work. I think the switch is basically switching the grounds.

If it were me, I would just cut off the relay, switch, etc (see red X below) and rewire from that point. I see a 4th (white) wire between the relay and controller that must be what is telling the relay what mode has been selected.

That's exactly what I did. but the yellow light does not work

It would really help to know how the relay was wired. If you pull the plug off the relay we can see the pin config and hopefully a diagram.

But weren't you sending these back because you just wanted yellow running lights and not full blown fog lights?

FWIW This is how my bumper fog lights are wired with no relay in between.

Diode Dynamics, while a little pricier, provide quality amber backlit pods. Their lumens output is output vs. other is incredible.
I also hooked all of my pods to AUX 5 as I wanted the flexibility as to when to use them. I suggest reaching out to the team at 4x4TruckLeds. They know their stuff, are unbiased have a great selection/inventory. Very helpful with their customer support if needed.
