Speak of the devil... Allow me to introduce Mr. “$3,000-under-invoice.” ?

Reported!!!

j/k :ROFLMAO:
for a noob like me, when people say “under invoice”, what-does that mean?

I apologize because I know this question is stupid. but I often avoid dealers for a reason. I just get heated, tell them to F off, then buy used. From a private seller.

is that the price the dealer pays?

Generally speaking, “Invoice” (dealer’s cost) + “mark-up” (dealer’s profit) = “MSRP” (Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price). Dealers also get “hold-back” from Ford, so they can sell below invoice and still make money.

Basically, Tom (DealerInsider) is selling for 3%-below-invoice and essentially trading his holdback for a higher future allocation from Ford, but his customers get the pricing benefit. Win/win.

It’s reasonable to project that if one is early enough in line then choosing options which may cause a delay due to limited supply wint affect them.

invoice is what the dealer pays the factory for a vehicle...dealers who floorplan also floorplan the vehicle for invoice...once the vehicle is invoiced, the manufacturer sends the dealer holdback...holdback for a domestic franchise is 2 or 3% of the invoice...so essentially, we own the vehicle for invoice less the holdback

Typically, dealers make a higher profit margin on financing, parts/service, and used vehicle sales than they do on new vehicle sales, so if they can get you in the door, finance your new vehicle, buy your used vehicle trade-in, and flip it quickly with a mark-up, they can afford to sell or lease the new vehicle for a lower price and still make money.

Study the opening post in the thread below carefully, and you’ll quickly learn how much difference there is between Invoice and MSRP.

Do you mind sharing which dealer? I live in Austin too and placed my order with Truck City Ford in Buda. When I asked what place I was they said "We can't tell, but you're the lowest reservation number we've seen so far" Seemed shady also.
Maxwell Ford. Im trying to pull more info, but we shall see what happens.

I know two people that have reservations at Maxwell. They both separately asked how many reservations were placed at that dealer. One was told 400 orders, the other was told 700.

I'm curious, if I have a later reservation than you (7/31), but I am at a dealer with less reservations overall, is it possible they build mine first? Hopefully not, I hope it's "first reserved, first served" regardless of location and allocation.

Whoa $3000 BELOW INVOICE!!! Damn... J/K I know you meant MSRP

I would & have told customers were they are vs orders converted and were they are vs total reservations & converted based on their reservation #...its the quickest way to look it up and sort in excel
Well there's your problem right there... Most salespeople don't know how to use Excel...

Initial allocation estimates that Ford has provided to dealerships has been averaging about 30% +/-5%.

150/700 = 21%... sounds low. 150/400 = 37.5%... sounds more believable.
