Honestly its probably best anyway to get that first tank out of the way and get some break in miles on it, so it wouldnt much matter to start with. But I'd run that first one down to fumes. Then a complete 93 fill up. Then give it about 20 miles or so to get all the lines clear of the 87 and pull the battery cable off and let it sit overnight disconnected as to get the long term fuel trims to clear. This is also called a KAM reset. Then next day hook it back up and go for a ride. That should get you about as clean of fuel trims as you're going to get for that density altitude.
Thanks for those suggestions. I’ve already run a couple tanks of 93 through it after running the regular down to fumes. Getting close to 2,000 miles when I’ll do my first oil changes. I’ll disconnect the battery that weekend overnight. I hadn’t thought of that.

Salesmen are generally clueless about the mechanics of what they sell. When I went to test drive my Bronco a month ago and do the trade, my Salesman decided that was a good time to fill the tank. I didn’t think about it at first but walked back and asked what fuel he was putting in it. He responded ā€œregularā€. I said you know these have more hp on premium right? He looked at me dumbfounded and said ā€œno! I would have put premium in it if I had known it made a differenceā€.
If he had put regular in it and regular was not 91 octane then the salesman violated Ford requirements clearly posted under the filler door.

Most car salesmen don’t know a thing about their products. Mine told me my carbonized grey was Area 51

The window sticker on mine said Cactus Grey. The little yellow tag the dealer adds to the key fob said Area 51...

Maybe I have a 1 of 1, might be Cactus 51?

I run 91 and have been for 2k miles but that is only because 93 isn't readily available in AZ otherwise I'd be using 93.
Shoot I’ve never seen 91 octane where I live in SW Michigan.

The manual states to not use anything below 87 as well as
Do not use:
• Diesel fuel.
• Fuels containing kerosene or paraffin.
• Fuel containing more than 15% ethanol or E85 fuel.
• Fuels containing methanol.
• Fuels containing metallic-based additives, including manganese-based compounds.
• Fuels containing the octane booster additive, methylcyclopentadienyl manganese tricarbonyl (MMT).
• Leaded fuel, using leaded fuel is prohibited by law.

I’d say your dealer should be educated on their product. They were most likely confused and should of said do not use 83.
Where I live, and I believe in most of the USA, most fuel has a small percentage of methanol. I can go to the pump at the casino to get methanol free, but why give them any more of my $$$$? I have run premium exclusively since i took delivery.

I’m no expert but do you mean ethanol and not methanol? Most gas these days contains ethanol but you still can find it ethanol free. Usually if you are storing your vehicle for the winter you would want to go with ethanol free to avoid any issues with moisture absorption.

Also I don’t recall if this is already in the thread but here in Colorado regular is 83 octane they get away with this because of the altitude. It seems to be fine for these engines however you might run into problems if you fill up here and then roadtrip to the lower elevation states. So in this case you should make sure to only have premium in your tank before your trip. That said I still exclusively run Costco premium since day 1 which is a 91 octane here. Not sure if it makes a difference but I’ve had my Bronco 3 years now and it’s got 12k miles so I go with the highest octane.

I have been running 93 for....a while. I am tuned, and I have an engine full of aftermarket pieces :) Even if I did not, using a higher-grade octane is not a bad thing. It will not hurt your engine especially since it is an induction e
