But you don't even like V8 engines?
I do when they are priced right, I can’t imagine paying more than $70k to be stuck with a V8 but above $40k I expect a V8 at minimum.

Even with the 10 speed the RPM at 80 would be very high haha.
I did some quick math.

35" tire with 4.70 in 10th:
2274 RPM at 80 MPH
1990 RPM at 70 MPH

32" tire with 4.70 in 10th:
2487 RPM at 80 MPH
2176 RPM at 70 MPH

Those don't sound too high for a 2.7L engine but I really don't know what the ideal cruising RPM should be. Even with 32" tires, the revs are less than a base manual which has 4.46 gears:
2582 RPM at 80 MPH
2259 RPM at 70 MPH

I don't particularly like the sasquatch wheels or tires so I've considered doing the same kind of thing to maximize on-road performance. Going from a 315 to a 265 saves about 20 pounds per tire and a narrower wheel will be lighter too. With a tune and auto 4x4, you might be able to embarrass some rather quick cars with a setup like that. Tuned 2.7L 4x4 crew F150's can do 0-60 in 4.8s so I would expect a Bronco in 4A with 4.70 gears to leave with authority and the 2-door might even wheelie if you lock the locker first

Ideal cruise GENERALLY speaking would be 2000rpm @ 70 Mph , which is how all of Ford's tire/gear ratios work out on the Bronco.
My post above was from GrimmJeeper.com gearing calculator.

Fixed it for you. ;) :D
"gas hog" is a moving target. I bet it will still get better MPG then my vehicles lol. I'm happy with anything in double digits especially in winter.

What do you think about getting a BaseSquatch and dropping to 32" for a daily driver but capable weekend overland vehicle able to get me over any fire road and across AZ desert on thetop of a table mesa hill for night star observing ?
I.e. no rock crawling or difficult trail riding.
The purpose would be to extract the value from the base trim to keep the price low, amplify the capabilities by sasquatching it but sweeten the price by selling/exchanging the 35" tires. (how much can I get?)
What would be the drawbacks of the smaller tires ?

Or shall I just keep it simple and get a BD..but then I end in upper $40s
I would like to have capable size tires, advanced 4x4, rear locking diff, protected underbody but not necessarily heavy front/rear bumpers to save loading capacity. And of course to pack all my equipment I am inclined to 4D (or 2D and Flyer Pursue)
