Thank for the reply. Ordered a pair to give these a try. I am all about solutions to move, use , store, or creating more functionality of using this vehicle while out fishing. There are many kinds of fishing and many kinds of equipment to be moved. I am working on building myself a hitch mounted carrying platform so I can carry my beach fishing cart to and from the beach also.

Any suggestions for security, other than a bungee cord? In case I go to a restaurant after a long morning of fishing and dont want to be sweating bullets thinking my rods may get jacked the entire time?

Sorry no real options. There's been no way to really lock a rod/reel to these kind of fishing holders ever.

I would think something like the small cable lock included with most long guns and pistols would be almost ideal for this application.

Any whistling on the highway when driving without rods?

How does the long surf rod behave in the holder when driving on the beach? Does it bounce around or hit the roof?

No whistling at all!

It doesn't bounce around at all. Your rod will flex a little but it'll do that in any mount as it's a long rod. But it's not like it's vibrating/bouncing out of the holder. Just the rod flexes a bit.
