My 2025 OBX Sasquatch is mostly a “hanger queen” in my garage. Last evening I had it out and noticed the gear selector isn’t lit. Is this one of Ford’s shortcomings in the Bronco or is this something I need to make an appointment at the dealership?

The one on the console beside the shifter (assuming it is automatic)?
If so, those are a decal/ look almost screen printed.
No lights to light up.
The indicator is on the gauge display.

Another example of Ford cheaping out and profiting...
My 2019 Escape didn't illuminate either... But 2018's did 🫩
Also, they turfed the led tails for shitty, single bulb halogens.
My 2015 Fiesta has more of the "little things" than my $75k Bronco

I wonder how in the F#€k did NTSHA give Ford a pass on that? After years of lit gear selector indications, that one threw me off questioning whether someone forgot to plug in the harness. Maybe if enough Bronco6g owners complained to NTSHA they will make Ford make some kind of fix. I don’t always look at the instrument cluster to see where my shifter is. Now that I know, I’m going to look at this being another way Ford is cutting corners. Before they would be displayed in both areas. I should be greatful at least they kept the shifter and not put in a rotary dial shifter as is in my Maverick which is one thing I hate. Leave rotary knobs to HVAC and the radio.

Because per regulations, it just needs to be permanently displayed in view of the driver, which it is at all times. The NTSHA isn't going to make them change anything.

I've never seen a manual transmission with a lighted gear selector.

Illuminated automatic gear selectors went away once manufacturers were able to display the information in the instrument cluster.

It's safer to look at the instrument panel for that information. Your eyes don't leave the road for as long. So I don't think NTSHA will ever require illuminated gear selectors.

Have you taken a center console apart? Is there even space under it to throw an LED?

I'll do it myself if it's fairly simple.

I have not, so I'm not sure. However even with a light it may not shine through since it wasn't designed to. But I could be wrong

Same. BMW has/had illuminated manual shifters to show the shift pattern, but it didn’t indicate which gear was engaged. I’ve never seen one that did.

The illuminated shift knob used to be standard on BMW M cars but around the time the 2016 M2 came out it became an accessory.

Not the end of the world that the Bronco doesn’t have it but considering how much Ford is charging for these vehicles it’s kind of a petty omission. The printed markings next to my shifter were scratched on delivery and it looks dime store cheap.

Why would you look down when they put a lighted indicator on the dash right in front of you ?

With my Escape there was... But the Bronco has never had an illuminated selector indicator so I highly doubt it.
