Is anyone else experiencing freezes and glitches with Android Auto?

Seeing three types of issues at various times

  1. Laggy display. The audio directions are fine and up to date but the in vehicle display is laggy. It shows the turn after you have already made it and remains frozen there till the next turn
  2. The on screen buttons at the bottom are often unresponsive. The buttons on the map itself respond, I can zoom and move around the map. But the functions at the bottom don't respond - split screen, map, Spotify, phone, settings
  3. The map itself becomes unresponsive. Can't zoom, pan, etc.
No issues like that in my wife's vehicle so I don't think it is my phone. On the other hand I drove a Dodge Charger rental with a wired Android Auto over the weekend and it behaved similarly.

I've had frustrations lately myself. Mainly with Music stopping and reloading and the aforementioned unresponsive buttons. One point of data that I found interesting is solar activity seems to be very active in my location when I have had my issues.

I've had issues while charging my phone off of the bronco's usb ports and using android auto simultaneously. Multiple lockups and so on. I'd say it's been better lately?

Someone here helped me SO MUCH by telling me there's a stereo hard reset by holding the power button and the physical 'back/reverse' button for 10 seconds

Hey there. I can look into your Bronco’s Android Auto concerns on my end if you’d like. Will you send us a private message with your VIN and dealership info?

Same, AA, and specifically wireless AA, are utter garbage in the bronco. When it works, it's fine, but when it doesn't, it REALLY doesn't. I'll have to reboot my head unit multiple times in the span of a week when things get wonky. Oddly enough, this seems to happen way more frequently around OTHER Ford vehicles that are newer and likely have sync4 in them as well. It's almost like Ford didn't follow any of the FCC Part 15 rules or something. Audio tends to skip pretty bad on startup, almost like it's trying to build up a buffer or something. I should point out that this also happens when NOT using AA as well, and just streaming music via Bluetooth is enough to make the the head unit fall on it's face.

Does seem to happen less frequently if I turn off the wireless hotspot in the vehicle (mostly anecdotal here though). I'm guessing that they used a really old-ass wifi controller in there to match the really old-ass bluetooth controller that's in there.

Hey @Ford Motor Company , I've got an older Raspberry pi in my closet, if I give you guys my vin, can you just open source your lackluster head unit and let the community solve it for you?

This was a big factor in why I went back to an iPhone. Carplay has it's bugs too, but generally it's way more stable and less laggy than AA. In fact, the lag with Google maps navigation was so bad I often missed directions in busy downtown areas and such. Apple Maps on carplay is much better (although a simpler solution with less info than Google Maps, and also less up-to-date maps).

Horrible, loads about 40 percent of the time correctly the rest it's a battle to get it to start up.
Usually I have to go to the phone on screen and click on the GPS icon and SOMETIMES it loads it's really disappointing to use

It's totally buggy. Most times a disconnect and reconnect fixes it, but sometimes only turning off and waiting a bit fixes it. Frustrating

I am not enough of a sheep to sport an iPhone. :D

Furthermore the problem is likely Ford not Google, because Android Auto works like a champ on my wife's GLC300.

On a Western tour from WV, and yes, I've had issues.... It's a Google problem.... To fix, I turn off Bluetooth and WiFi, turn them back on and the world is fine... Sometimes I've done the heads unit reboot, but that's when things are really bad.

Hit Moab, again, later today. 😁

I think my biggest bitch is when AA takes over, and there's no going back to the Ford screen to listen to am radio, seems better lately. I'm blaming warmer weather.

Not true, I think. Hit the settings (cog) icon on the bottom right, select the Ford app from the list, you can then configure audio source, then go back to AA.

Now if I only figure out how you search for radio stations in the Ford app.... The seek button takes me to the next predefined station, not the next station available on the dial.

I absolutely hate these stupid touch screens in cars. They are a safety risk too, since you can no longer do anything just by touch.

TY. I feel like Off Rodeo was an outstanding day learning about the Bronco. I feel like I could use a similar day long class titled "Synch 4 and You" or something like that.

Don't know what mix of things you have but I listen to AM while AA is "in control" with no issues. Ancient Pixel 2 XL running stock Android 11 paired to Badlands with High pkg.
