Trying to install Homelink mirror with auto dim.
Mongo needs access dang it.

I tried gently with a plastic pry tool and got the front lip of the 6 aux switch but the resistance was not something I felt comfortable to exceed.
Only other option was a vid of adding the 6 aux harness and that involves way more then I need.

i wonder is there a tap point somewhere up here and how to get to it. What if one of those led’s need replacement how does one get to them?

Which mirror did you get to do this?

I watched the video and noticed there is a wiring harness behind the black cover on the windshield that is way easier to get to. You would need to figure out which wire is hot.

Check YouTube for @1Five1 Garage - they have at least one video (among dozens) that show how that can be removed.

Got a link for the mirror itself OP?
last year Kia motors was selling these at 26 dollars as an error in their system(normally 200+).
All online orders where rejected. Same for toyota and Lexus _Subaru as well use the same ones

So I walked into the parts center at my local KIA store they had only 2 instock both of them since they were so cheap. I have one for the Maverick and the second one for bronco.

link to the Mav forum on how I found out about it.

I did see this post

Its a good starting point for me to see it this can be done. with out ripping the entire upper console out.

I have the mirror in the lab today and I am going to measure its current draw and make sure the wire I tap into can handle the extra draw.

In the mav you need to tap into the light power or the moon roof motor power line.
If you tap into the camera module you will get an camera error code so I don't want to have that happen here.

it draws 160 mA at 12v and 170 mA at 13.5v
So as long as i choose wisely I should be good.

Wow looks like a real electronics shop. ESD mat on desktop real connectors for wire harnesses, a lot newer equipment than I used to work with (think 1980's/90's). This at home or work?

Were you able to get this to work? I’m looking at doing the same project. Already have the rear view mirror just trying to figure out the best way to run/tap power

Nope. I just ran wires up and around the windshield and plastic molding to run power for the homelink and “critter cam” display module.
Its discreet enough for me.
