We currently have a Tacoma that’s getting up there in miles. We’re a 1 vehicle family, I use my motorcycle to get to work 3 seasons a year and the bus for the winter. Wife runs a home business. So our 1 vehicle is a grocery getter and also used for ice fishing and hunting.

I really want a 2 door Bronco with a manual. Kids are grown up and don’t need the back seat much anymore. We had a 78 when I was a kid, I had one in the 90s too. Love them. But I always had a truck for hunting too.

Does anyone hunt (deer mostly) with an SUV or Jeep? Use a hitch hauler? Our deer are pretty big up here in Saskatchewan, just not sure if that would work. I have a welder in the family and could build any kind of hitch rack we’d need

Don’t want to have a Bronco AND a truck, just don’t need/want a second vehicle/insurance. It’s either a Bronco or another Tacoma or maybe a Frontier. I think I know what I should do, get another truck...but I reeeeealy want a Bronco.

Tbh hunting in an suv your best bet is one of those tailgate hitch mounted cargo carriers. Throw that stinky thing in a trash bag to get it to camp/field dress it or to take it to the butcher.

My EB was used for hunting before my dad got it and fixed it up. They had some dog box/seating arrangement in the back. Mine has a soft top, so they took off the hard top to go through the woods. I would not recommend doing this with a brand, new Bronco. It was super rough when my dad got a hold of it.

I would not put game behind a vehicle for very long. That's one of the filthiest places on most vehicles.

Just take the back seat out and put your game in a sled. The sled should make it a heck of a lot easier to get it to the vehicle, and into the vehicle as well.

Thought that might work too. I guess it depends whether the seats fold flat and how much room there is in the 2 door.

Just wrap it in a tarp and throw it on a hitch hauler if you're not going to dress and pack there

This is where a tailgate would shine a bunch over a swing gate. Among other things.

I want a 2 door also... and the deer will most likely get tied down to hitch hauler to get them out of the woods. Will probably hoist them up on the roof rack if I have to haul any kind of distance.

That works for those tiny southern whitetails, but not their northern cousins ;-) . Our bucks are hard to load in a pickup with 2 people. Only way to get it on a roof rack would be in quarters. I don’t like cleaning my deer in the field, rather do it in the shop with a hoist/gambrel where it isn’t -30. Just need to get them there whole. From there, they could be quartered and put into tubs or whatever.

I think the sled is a pretty good idea, if the seats fold flat or can be removed. Hitch hauler can work too, I guess.

I haven't hauled out a whole, or even quartered animal in over 20 years.
After finding the deer, (elk, antelope, etc), I skin the upper side of the animal as it lays, I then bone out just the meat putting it in bags. Roll the animal over and do the other side. It takes about a half hour more, (deer), or hour, (elk), to do but eliminates the need to dispose, drag, carry, or transport the carcass. I even do this if it is shot near a road. When you get home you can either butcher it yourself or have it processed. The only thing in your new Bronco is a few coolers.
I started doing this when the deer I shot was 5 miles from camp. I don't like to pack out parts of the animal that I can't eat.

I've seen those Gaints… They don't grow that big round my stomping grounds. But... I would still pull it up in a tree and back the Bronco under it if I was heading home from camp.

The sled idea might be a bust. I don't think there will be enough room in a two door.

A hitch carrier of some sort would be fine. Wrap it in a tarp and tie it down. Now if you are going to go for an elk.... Bring a trailer. And a winch or a few friends.
I've always used my trucks for hunting, but you can bet I'll figure out how to make hunting with this bronco work. I'll probably be bringing the quarters and back straps home with an elk, not the whole animal.

Yeah, I only get drawn for moose or elk every 15 years, I’ll use a trailer when that happens. Just sucks using a trailer for deer when a lot of the driving is in rough terrain.

I only hunt around my old stomping ground where my dad still lives on the farm. I only need to transport it a maximum of maybe 10 miles of dirt/gravel roads. So I’m not worried about offending anyone or it getting too dirty, so I probably wouldn’t have to tarp it. Things are pretty frozen during our hunting season, not a lot of dust, just snow. Can just go slow...I think the hitch rack will work. Thanks everyone...the Bronco is now back at the top of the list. Now if they’d just release the damn thing.

Maybe there’ll be a hunter model...all linex interior that can be pressure washed out and I can just throw it in the back. ;-). You listening Ford???

When my family goes mule deer hunting it's really just depends on which one is work at the moment the first gen expedition or the 90s 3500 Chevy/GMC (front half is Chevy, bed is GMC) just get tarp if it's carpeted or just strip the rear both work

Yeah no carpet. I'm constantly in sand and gravel from fishing, shooting and other outdoor activites, I want an easy to clean interior.
