Is the Bronco magic real and will it last?

We enthusiasts have a different perspective of the Bronco. It is an SUV but the thing is we know it’s not just another SUV; there is more.
The proportions, the stance, the way you feel when you look at it....it is almost as if the darn thing looks right back at you and knows that it is special and alive and quite capable of reminding more than a few of us of a different place and time.

No inanimate object has a soul but some, especially cars, in rare cases, at least seem to. The new Bronco is one such rare vehicle.

So when we finally get to bring one of these beauties home, it will be a special day, a special occasion.

However, even for manufacturers it is not always easy to know what they may have created. The original 90’s HONDA/Acura NSX, the Toyota Supra TT of the same era were very special but both manufacturers stopped production instead of continuing their development and refinement.
When they finally realized their folly and tried to recapture the magic with the new NSX and more recently the new Supra they failed. The magic was gone.

Porsche on the other hand ignored some naysayers who felt the 911 would never succeed as a sports car, what with the engine hanging behind the rear axle! The 911 magic survived while many other sports cars came and went.

What Ford has been able to do is truly very rare in bringing an icon back with all the magic and the soul of the original intact and if it is possible, perhaps even more pure at least in its form and function. It is no wonder the Bronco has charmed the automotive world as it has.

Is it possible that Ford may try too hard to “improve” upon the Bronco in the coming years and so ruin it? It’s possible. It happened to the original lovely Datsun 240z. At least Ford was able to resurrect the Mustang in the last generation after mutilating the superb original design. So perhaps Ford knows a thing or two about resurrecting greatness and so will refrain from destroying the lovely and lovable Bronco.

Do you think Ford knows and understands what they have created?

Do you think the new sixth generation 2021 Bronco is the best it will ever be only to deteriorate into mediocrity just like the original Miata, the original NSX and the first generation Z?

What do you think?

I think enthusiasts consistently over-estimate their relevance to automakers.

We complain the most. We often wait for the used market.

Big companies chase the average consumers, not us wild obsessives debating trim levels and tire choices.

Ford knows what they've done here, but what they've done is cut into Jeep's broad market appeal. That was their goal. Making us happy was secondary (and judging by many rants on the forum, impossible) - no matter what they say.

Interesting question....but I don't think Ford is driving the train - it's all about meeting market demand. G6 is already handicapped by the confines of CAFE & safety regs, although I personally see auto manufacturers as complicit in that evolution. Ergo the powertrain, overly wide stance, and electronic nannies.

Perhaps G1 was more focused on a narrower market swath, while G6 wants to please everyone.

But there's always room to snatch Defeat from the jaws of Victory. A common definition of Corporate Marketing is "the group that takes a glorious, successful, broadly loved product...and continues to tweak features/price points to the point no one wants it anymore".

Agreed. Instead of 7 trim levels there should be 2, and option the rest. 7 is too many for one vehicle. It's the same vehicle...

I agree which is why it is good to see Ford do such a thorough job on the new Bronco which is focused primarily at enthusiasts. The Bronco Sport which is likely to outsell the Bronco was a smart inclusion by Ford.

All ford needs to perfect this is slightly better folding seats and a badass engine option and later down the line an EV

Unfortunately, very true.
I suppose when the people responsible for the intro of a new or renewed vehicle are replaced by others who may not have the same priorities, changes for the sake of changes or to meet the demands or needs of a larger market can change a good product for the worse.

we already have an answer ... did jeep stop making the wrangler the last 25+ years?

If the Bronco is better than the Wrangler then it maybe the wrangler that goes away.

They had a hit with the Gen1 Bronco. Notice they used that as a base for the Gen6 Bronco, and I think hit it out of the ballpark. Maybe this is a bigger hit than they imagined. I believe Ford will listen to public feedback moving forward, paying attention to what sells and what fails. Failing is part of succeeding. We've asked for a lot out here in these forums. I believe they will do their best to accommodate. Obviously everyone will know more as the Bronco gets into the hands of the public.

Some of the changes are needed and others perhaps unavoidable ;)

Jeep has a good thing going, for so long with no real competitors, maybe got complacent. With the Bronco coming into the action Jeep won't just rollover. I think there will be some good products as a result of the competition. We the consumer wins.

Agreed.
We are a very vocal minority and not necessarily representative of the entire Bronco market.

It is true however that we are a free and easily accessed sampling population for Ford and it appears that they do pay some attention to our rants and raves.
