I got a notice from J & L about their new separators for the 2.7 Bronco. Is that needed on our Broncos?
Thanks,
Lou

Oil separators work very well. They capture the oil mist in a can instead of allowing it to recirculate back into the intake, tb, intercooler and the engine itself. We installed one on our first edition and it definitely works as I've drained it a few times since installing it. We have the JLT kits available so feel free to give us a shout if you have any other questions or need help placing an order.

Just installed the J&L one. Super easy install. 10-min tops.

The 2.7L Ecoboost uses both port injection and direct injection, however, it utilizes direct injection for the majority of its operating temperatures. Direction injection shoots fuel directly into the cylinder and because of this, there is no buffer or filter to prevent the debris from getting in and creating a build-up in the crankcase and the intake system. Because the Bronco utilizes direct injection, I think our engine can benefit greatly from a catch can.

Here is a post I wrote the catch can: https://trailbronco.com/2023/03/12/jl-oil-separator-catch-can-for-the-6th-gen-bronco/

I also shared some photos of a catch from a 5th Gen 4Runner (port injection) at around 6000K miles. It will be interesting to see what we pull from the Bronco at around 3000k miles.
