I'm really not sure if this is the right subforum for this question, but not sure what other sub would be better.

I have the soft top and find myself locking the console frequently. It's a pain to press the button to extract the key from the fob, and I feel like this is a mechanism that will wear out over time. Does anyone know if it's possible to get a separate physical key you could keep on a keychain for locking the console and glove box? I googled but didn't see anything obvious.

Good point. Since this pull out key is probably not chip enabled any reputable key specialist should be able to cut you a new physical key, I have a good one just a block away from my office and will find out what's involved

It is just a laser cut key, I don't see why not with a good locksmith that has the proper tools.

I don't quite have my Bronco yet but I recall that there is a separate key in the center console (mainly for the purpose of a dead key fob battery), but it may work... Try it and let us know.

Its not a key - its an indentation that you set your FOB in and the vehicle has the ability to power the FOB enough to read it via NFC, allowing your Bronco to start. Its also where you can set the your second FOB to program it with restrictions (speed limiter etc).

I do lock picking as a hobby (don't ask..), the key itself inside the FOB is just a standard key. You can go to any locksmith and have a copy cut for a few bucks.

The dealers near me said it is not possible.

My independent key guy said it’s easy and costs $30
The console and glove box key slot have no electronics involved.. It doesn't know if its the key from the FOB or not. If there were sensors involved, then it would be an issue. Its just your average, run of the mill key slot though, so you are free to use any key you'd like.

I just went to Home Depot to try to get this done and the guy said I’d have to go elsewhere cuz they didn’t have the right type of blank key to cut it from. Anyone know where to get a good blank key? Or should I just try to find a smaller key/lock shop?

A local lock smith should be able to help. Hardware stores typically do standard house and older vehicle keys mostly.
