Absolutely a warranty replacement. The backside of the airbag cover is molded with a “groove” split line to control exactly how that cover flower pedal splits open during an airbag deployment.

The engineering team on airbag deployments works pretty hard to see there are no “missiles” on deployment, no way, no how.

They just made those lines a bit too fragile for the application

This is what I figured; everyone’s is reacting the same way. Meaning these are the split lines and as you mentioned, they are made too weak for this design.
What’s comical is that we on this forum are educated and aware of the issue - don’t even work for ford. But when I go the a presidents club winning ford dealer they told me “it appears to be a scratch that happened at the factory” lmao. They still covered it so I guess I don’t care - but nice to know dealers legit have no idea what’s going on ever

It’s another complete whiff by ford. Not sure if they were being cheap or what. It feels cheap hard and brittle. Not sure what was wrong with the material they’ve used for the last 20 years that they changed it.

I’m quite sure the steering wheel airbag supplier designed this one.

One thing that’s a small bit different here… Except perhaps Mustang convertable, I would expect the steering wheel in the new Bronco to have a whole lot more exposure to sunlight. And sunlight (UV rays) really has an adverse effect on all plastics. No excuse for not seeing that coming. Its pretty obvious.

It looks like a mfg issue during the plastic injection process when the plastic resin from two flows converge and one is a cooler than it should be. That is why all the pictures of the defect look the same. The resin is either not at the right temp or the tools is.

Since this is all part of the air bag assembly, I would think this is 100% warranty. Ford isn't going to want to dicker over this because it's a safety item. If you would've scratched it or used some type of cleaner that messed it up, maybe not. No other damage and you used the part as intended, that IMO, is a defect in factory supplied materials.

My steering wheel was cut in 3 places. The dealer did it to several while unwrapping the car. They changed the steering wheel with no problem.

This is 100% a warranty item. Take it to the dealer and they will order a new one for you.

My front airbag light came on the dash yesterday and I noticed I have the same long crack as the pics above on the steering wheel horn cover that was not there the other day. I have a dealership appointment for the middle of November. Is there an actual TSB on this issue?

Add me to the list. Less than 2,000 miles when it happened. Not making a trip to the dealership just for this though.
