It's amazing the amount of technology car companies have invented to make an automatic drive like a manual.

Sorry, I have nothing of value to add to your question except a post bump and a wiseass comment.

Unless they changed something in recent model years, Bronco has never had this feature before.
So it’s either new, or a mistake in the owners manual.

Looking at other model year owner manuals, it seems this section wasn’t added until 25MY.

Interesting. Would be good for me on drives down the mountains. I’ll try to get it going next time.

One of the times recently that mine was in the shop, i had an f150 loaner that had this feature. it finally made the 10r60 behave like a decent automatic.

Mine works like this, yours doesn't? You just press the minus button while in D, as it says, you have to already be in motion for it to do anything. Say you're going 50 downhill, and you wanna use engine braking, you just press the - button until you're in the desired gear, and it holds until it times out after pressing the gas or until you shift to M and back to D. Or press and hold the + button as it says.

My 2022 wildtrak has this function. You press the - button on the shifter while in D and it temporarily downshifts to your desired gear until you're back on the gas for a few seconds. Has had this feature since I got it.

Nah, this is something different from what you’re talking about.

If you double press the minus button, it won’t start locking out higher gears, which is what the progressive range selection is.
This feature isn’t temporary like the bronco is.

Shift into “M”, then you can do exactly that. Lock out gears no problem.

This locks out high gears while continuing to automatically shift though the rest.
When in M, it still automatically shifts through the other gears and isn't temporary though. I can take a video if you've got any doubts.

What is this "selector in D" thing? Is that some fancy schmancy new fangled transmission? If I don't want to go into a high gear, I just don't..

(serious reply: my F-150 has this feature and it works just fine. Useful when towing or driving in the mountains to keep the transmission from jumping into 10th as it is wont to do as soon as it can).
