I am surprised how the people that has no experience in Dune bashing in GCC teach drivers with years of experience driving on the sand....The question on this topic is not about what is the best configuration for Dune bashing or if I need this or that... the question is simple, can we unlock 8, 9, 10 gear in 4 L.

For your information, all toyotas, Ninssans, even my modified Cayenne can go full gears in 4L (Some needs to be programmed but can do it).

We need it, the torque you get to start the dunes with soft sand requires 4 L, and for the big dunes, we need to go above 120Kmh to not loose the momentum and go down....you need to -float- over the dunes to keep going, and you can achieve it only by going fast. On the other hand, you will have to suddently break and go slow, but not possible to stop, go N and then put 4L and then change again 4H. We drive 120Kmhat 7-8 PSI, switching between sides of the dunes....is something different, please just trust me when I say we really need it.

We need this, this is not a question. The question here is: Did anyone unlock it? And in this case, How?

When you put 4L, there are multiple advantages, from engine map to Kill swich capability (In 4H is all the time bipping and giving alerts...)... Removing the traction control by long press is not enough for sand dunes, the last week almost roll over at the empty quarter because even after the long press traction removal, the breaks acctivated in a very bad angle with a very soft dune....with 4L I can engage the Kill switch, with 4H...no way.
I agree with what you’re saying. This was not supposed to be an argument about whether anyone needs it. The question is how to get it. You shouldn’t have to explain why you want it. I want it also.

I had a similar thing happen when I asked about being able to view the rear camera going forward at any speed. The reason was for when towing a flat bed trailer to view my load and straps, but that doesn’t matter. I even got questioned about whether I was towing over capacity lol. Too many closed minded Karens here. I did get several people who legitimately tried to figure out how to do it. My Gladiator had that option. My Motorhome has that option.

without going into whether or not you should or shouldn't, the reason it is limited is probably because the planetaries in the transfer case would not last very long at those speeds.

There used to be a kit to change an NP231 from a 2.73 low range to a 4:1. Eventually the kit was pulled off the market because if you drive over 20mph with it in low range, the planetary gears wear very quickly and break.

With the 4.70 axle ratio combined with all of the overdrive ratios in the 10 speed, the 7th gear limitation is most likely to extend the life of the low range planetaries.

My lexus GX460 also will not shift past 4th in the 6 speed auto when in low range. I used to always wonder why the toyota guys were always switching between hi and low range, i guess thats why. The xterra i used to have would let you use all the gears in 4lo, which was great for rough forest roads at 20-30mph.

does your bronco have baja mode? it works in 4hi and holds lower gears to keep revs up and the turbos spooled.

I have no idea how to do what you want to do but I will say that I had a TON of fun doing this in Dubai several years ago. It was truly a blast!!

I'm envious of your opportunity to wheel in those big dunes!

Don't worry about it, most American's never see dunes and have no idea what's involved - too busy crawling along at 5kmh among the boulders and tree roots to even think about it ;)

As far as anyone can tell, long pressing the traction control button does not even fully disable stability control, let alone give you 8-10 gears. There is a thread around here somewhere describing which fuse to pull that may (but no one is certain) fully disable stability control, but I doubt pulling this fuse would give you the high gears.

With a manual transmission, I can get into high gear(s) in 4Lo. However I don't recall ever getting any real rpm's in 5th or 6th, so my speeds must have been not much more then 40 or 50 kmh. I have an area close that is moderatly deep sand but flat - I'm going to experiment in the next few days and see if I can wind it out in 5/6th in 4Lo. Perhaps your solution is a trade in for a manual ;)

Yeah I would email or contact @ZFGracing on here and see if this potentially something they could do with their custom tuning. This is the only possible way I think it would work.

But like mentioned above, this will only be possible with the 2.7 or 3.0
Custom tuning is not possible for the 2.3, and likely won’t be for the foreseeable future.
