I replaced mine with black McGard lug nuts to match my black wheels to avoid this problem.

Another anecdote, the lug nuts on my Mom's vehicle started to swell and I had to buy a 19.5 mm socket to get them off to replace with one piece lug nuts on her 2014 vehicle. There was no way to get a standard 19 mm socket over the swell.

If you replace your vehicles every few years I am sure it will not be a problem. Some people like to always have a new vehicle. If you keep your vehicles for as long as you can, it will probably become an issue.

Yes. The first thing I do with all new Fords are one piece lug nuts and a dip stick that measures the correct amount of oil. 2 insanely basic items that I didn't think Yugo could even mess up.

I was stranded once with a flat tire and a lug wrench that didn't fit on my swollen nuts. That's when I found out.

Sounds like a personal problem!

On a more serious note, in my experience worn/larger clearance impact sockets, and people who are not diligent about fully seating the socket on the lugnut before pulling the trigger on the impact wrench are what cause the 2 piece lugnuts to go bad.

I believe you are partially correct but I think the main reason the techs use a bigger size to begin with is because the nuts start swelling and the actual size doesn't fit anymore. Techs keep going up to the one that fits on without getting stuck and eventually they spin the cap. I found that a hole saw the just fits around the lug nuts will cut the cap off and you can get to the actual nut.

I have never tried a hole saw, though that is a good idea... (what size?) when I have to deal with this at work, I usually just hammer the socket on to the damaged lugnut, use the impact wrench, then clamp the socket into a vice and hammer the (now really destroyed) lugnut out with a punch - then replace the lugnut.

Edited to add: this method is a pain in the ass, and I wouldn't recommend it.

The smallest you can get over the wrench flats. Look up on youtube, there are a few videos. It works like a champ.

One of the first things I'll be doing is changing the lugs upon delivery.

I'm leaning towards the McGards, but I reached out to Gorilla and this is what they said:

"For your 2022 Ford Bronco with factory alloy wheels here are the black lug nut and lock sets we recommend:

Lug Nuts - 41138FSBC
Wheel Locks -
71431NBC5
71631XBCB5
61631BCB5

Gorilla products can be purchased through online retailers like Summit Racing, eBay.com, as well as Wheel Pros dealers near you (https://www.wheelpros.com/dealers). We don't sell retail from our warehouse or website.
"

Maybe I'll do McGards locks and Gorilla lugs?

The listed Gorilla products are kind of hard to find though....
