Is it a real temperature gauge or is it a glorified idiot light?

I have towed and seen up to say 225-230 degrees temps on the info gauges on the right side of the dash display, but still just 4 bars on the temp guage. I tend to trust the gauges with the analog readout more than the bar graph. And just FYI... mine is also a 2.3l 7MT badlands.

93Ā° C is the operating temperature for me 95% of the time. I did get it up to 106Ā° C before while towing, and thatā€™s as highest I am noticed it.

I have no idea how many bars that translates to. That temperature readout is effectively meaningless, and I never look at it.

That is an idiot light. If you have the offroad gauges those are a lot better.

There are a few apps out there that you can use with a bluetooth OBD that work well too.

OBDLink MX+ is the dongle I have.

I haven't tried an app on the Bronco, but use them on my other vehicles. OBDLink has a nice dashboard feature.

I didn't even know there was a bar readout for temp. The Guage readouts are 1985 garbage

Thatā€™s water temp, come to think of it - Iā€™ve never seen it go beyond 4. Iā€™ve seen oil get up to 235Ā°F when tackling a significant climb. Didnā€™t think to check the water temp at that time.

There is no water temp gauge showing the actual temp, just the light bars under the speedo. There appear to be a total of eight bars and I presume they change to red once you reach the 6th or 7th bar. It's a bit better than just an idiot light but certainly would be nice to be able to associate a temperature range for each bar.

While I have never gotten mine to go past 4 bars, I've definitely gotten mine to lose bars when coasting/engine braking down hills for extended periods in the winter. Sometime all the way from 4 down to 1 when it was really cold out.

seems odd that they would give you the option for oil temp but only the bar guage for water. It does give you something to watch while operating in heavy conditions but water temp in degrees would be nice too.
I used to have a LR Disco II, where the coolant temp guage was a dial with white blocks that reacted slowly, usually too slowly to react so an overheat turned to blown head gasket before it got to the red zone. Cheers LR!
