We went with Gear America. 7/8 with bag.
The price and Made IN USA all added up to a suitable buy for us.

Now going to look into a couple soft shackles. The J-Tow Samson mentioned above will probably be the ones.

For the most part I'd say pass on Smittybilt gear , but their 1" x 30' is reasonably priced and rated at 30k lbs.

This is as clear as mud for a noob:

How is a “recovery rope” different from a “snatch strap” and a “tow strap” and a “kinetic recovery rope?”

Kinetic rope stretches. It's nice in terrain where you don't have much traction (soft sand, snow, mud). With a normal snatch/tow strap, is very useful on a harder surface where you can get traction. When you use a kinetic rope you go like 5mph and then the rope stretches and has a softer pull where you basically use the momentum of the recovering vehicle to extract the stuck vehicle. If you do that with a standard strap it can break shit. It is a good idea to have both in your gear, along with hard and soft shackles. I also have a tree saver that I can use as a bridle if needed.

I have an ASR rope and am quite happy with it, also got some of their soft shackles.

Maybe this is just nomenclature, but what I've read is that a snatch strap is flexible/dynamic vs a tow strap is static. Below is an ARB snatch strap that I was considering. Kinetic rope is a term that I just learned today. It seems like the same concept but they do look different:

Yea, nomenclature, I've referred to tow straps and snatch straps as synonymous for a long time... apparently incorrectly lol oops

Yes, a kinetic/recovery rope and kinetic/snatch/recovery strap are the same concept but a rope has more stretch, is more durable, and is field repairable.

A tow rope or tow strap has a little stretch to make the initial pull less jarring, but are basically static for towing.

If I remember correctly....snatch straps do stretch and use the energy, but they are only meant to be stretched like 5 times. After that they should be replaced. The Kinetic ropes are heavier and are made to be stretched many more times.

Yeah, that’s why I went with a kinetic rope. I may never need it, but why cheap out when buying the gear?

From what I read you want you want a kinetic rope with a breaking point of 3x the vehicle weight, so I went with a 3/4” rope. https://www.asroffroad.com/kinetic-recovery-ropes/

I don't have a wench yet, so I carry about 120' of recovery rope. It was a nice gift from my brother in law. He's a huge wheeler, and fabber. That should be enough to get me out of most, by myself or with a pull truck or snatch.

If you plan on doing a LOT of recovering, a dynamic rope is likely the best bet. But for the casual offroader, a recovery strap is WAY cheaper... But won't take repeated 'hits' to it before its considered unsafe to use.
