Am I missing something? They seem to be the same color.
One appears in full sun, the other is a shaded sun. In my opinion.

Photo was made by Bronco Nation. Is this why the more recent MIC tops we've been seeing look darker? Looks to be smoother too.

A slightly darker shade of grey...maybe? Either way, it still doesn't match any of the other trim pieces.

Here’s the first picture I’ve seen from this angle, showing the contrast of the black grill and MIC. I order a MOD (FE, rapid red too), but I don’t hate this look. After seeing this, I might actually prefer the MIC. It looks more rugged, and I like the idea of a MIC to reduce scratches.

Rick, saw a A51 (first time) today on a sport.
waaaaaaaay darker than these pics...
wonder if it shifted since the “overlander”..?
A51 is a sneaky color, it can really differ as lighting conditions change. And cameras don’t tend to always catch it the same.

No doubt they could have tried several different things to get where they're at for production. It costs next to nothing in the long run to blast a mold to knock the texture down a bit darkening the way it reacts to light. The texture on the tooling will naturally soften a bit over the course of its life anyways until its reworked. Just having worked in plastics before I'd be willing to bet Ford has quite a bit of time and effort dialing in this blend of plastic to meet all its required performance characteristics. Playing around too much with the mix of colorants and resins can change those properties quickly. I could see them making minor tweaks there but not wholesale changes this close to launch. Whatever combination they've struck seems to have worked as people are noticing.

The pics of the newest ones look great. I hope that’s the production version.
Agreed, I'm happy with the way that looks for sure.
