I think this boils down to respecting other peoples property, and he clearly did not do that. Bit of a problem in today’s general society. He took the liberty to do as he pleased without considering your thoughts about it. That is inconsiderate and disrespectful. You are not overreacting, don’t listen to these people saying you are overreacting. In the end, it isn’t their vehicle so they already have no personal investment on the matter.

Drop the car show analogy. Most times there are signs that warn people about touching.
Oil caps are designed to come off. The front attachments again no big deal. Now if they started denying any keying shit then there's an issue. Maybe like at a car show you should have said "I'll open it but please don't touch since I just got it"...

The question is about over-reacting. Being upset with an individual that has stepped out of bounds…ok. Getting into an argument with my wife about it, whom had nothing to do with the Offense….hmmm? Some strange man unscrewing my oil filler cap does not warrant fighting with my wife on Christmas Eve. What are you doing with these replies? Forcing your wife to read them so that she can see the error of her ways? I bet that’s going over well. Merry Christmas all.

I wouldn't unscrew anything on an engine of a vehicle owned by someone I don't know. It's not a big deal, but it would have annoyed me were it my Bronco.
When my first daughter was an infant, I had countless people (always women) come up to my girl and touch her face, head, etc. This infuriated me. I could not understand how anyone would have the audacity to touch the face of child they don't know in a supermarket, at the park, etc. I learned to tell such people to "Get Away". What reaction would they have if I went up and pulled on their lip or grabbed their ear lobe? They'd be in shock, but yet think it's okay if they do it. Moral of the story... A large swath of the population is stupid and you are usually defenseless to counter their stupidity. Best thing to do is politely inform them of their stupidity and brush it off.

I still don't get the unscrewing of the oil cap. I probably looked at a thousand engines from friends, neighbors, relatives, and strangers and not once did I feel the need to unscrew an oil cap unless I was going to add oil.
