Agreed with you 100%.

However we got 16mpg or so in our 2012 4-Door Wrangler and are getting 21mpg+ in our ICE 2.3L Bronco (which is way more peppy as well). Very happy with that!
I have heard ~20 is doable in the 2.3, which considering how much more it weighs compared to my Outback, which has been getting 24 or so, boggles my mind. Do you keep it in eco most of the time?

Actually no. We're just driving in "Normal" mode and getting the 21+ consistently. Have had a tank or two at 23MPG.
