Note while you will avoid damaging the paint on a trail you will still scratch the PPF. If light it will self heal but if too deep it won’t heal. Its a trade off but it’s not trail armor in the true sense.
That’s absolutely true, but so far in my experience the self healing has been very impressive. And my thought is that if I damage one panel’s worth of PPF, it’s a lot cheaper to replace than repainting.

They opted not to ppf the textured part of the rockers b/c the ppf would eventually lift, so they ceramic coated instead.
That's consistent with what a shop proposed to me. They proposed wrapping the lower doors up to the body line. I thought their estimates were high, but this seems so location dependent -- I'm in the Washington, DC area. And the shop had several super cars in the bay. There are a ton of wrap shops near me, and I'm sure the quality runs from 0 to 100. I'm going to get an estimate from the owner of the place I store my Chevelle.

Keep posting guys! This is very educational.

Obviously, I’m in Canada. I went to “The Auto Protectors” in Calgary, Ab. Excellent shop!!
As I said, they wrapped everything (except the roof), and they did an awesome job. They walked me through it after the fact and showed me the work, it was impressive. Wrapped all the edges, hid all the seams, etc. They opted not to ppf the textured part of the rockers b/c the ppf would eventually lift, so they ceramic coated instead.
I chose Xpel b/c of the DAP pre cut kits—it’s like CNC for ppf, and way more precise than a human hand.
The shop did have the truck for 10 full days, but I guess the old saying is true; there’s good work, there’s fast work, and there’s inexpensive work—you only get two out of the three.
Hey Function_7, I asked as I realized you were in Canada, and for a Canadian dollar, it seemed like a really good deal to me. I am in Whistler, so not too far away. Close enough to drive, and I have some friends in Calgary I can stay with. I will have to plan a trip obviously as the two out of three you got, are an amazing deal. I really appreciate the insight.
Enjoy your truck she looks like a beauty.

I'm doing DIY job with "Vvivid by 3m" film. Front 12" of hood and fenders, bottom 12" of doors, below grille trim (12"x22', 6"x6') = ~$145. It seems irrational to me to spend thousands on a bronco and there isn't really a middle ground between $150 and $2000 so DIY it is.

I hope it works out for you! I can’t recommend the shop enough, they’re awesome. Let them know the guy with the green Bronco sent you.

I did Ceramic Pro Kavaca. Covered all the painted surface other than the rear tailgate, including around the windshield. Ceramic coated the top and grill and everything else. It was $2300, but I think I caught him at a good time.. On a recent wheeling trip to UT I was with a friend who had Xpel on his 4runner. His showed scratches, which were supposed to gradually work themselves out with sun and a bit of heat. Mine showed no scratches at all. Ran the same routes every day. He had one scratch that didn't come out, and the installer said he might have to replace that panel.

At least check out Ceramic Pro Kavaka. I have never seen any type of scratch on mine after a wheeling trip.

I actually just got a quote for Kavaca (apparently pronounced Kavacha). It has a 12-yr warranty. If I got your deal I'd jump on it. My estimate is not nearly as good.

1700 full hood, fender, under grill, and mirrors (which I don't need).
800 lower doors (200 ea.) (not including rockers which don't accept ppf well).
400 A-pillars, above windshield, door cups.

$6000 CAD before taxes for Bronco Raptor PPF and Ceramic.

All painted surfaces , grill surround and headlamps wrapped and ceramic coated. Fenders/mod top untouched as they are pourus.
Had an update from my PPF installer.

-MOD top/fenders and other plastic parts will be ceramic coated but not PPF due to being pourus/textured

-The Raptor graphics have 3 options:

1. PPF over top which may cause air bubbles around edges of graphics. These edges may eventually lift and trap moisture between PPF and graphics.

The graphics are also matte in some areas so applying clear PPF to them will turn them glossy.

2. Wrap around the graphic as close as possible and hand cut pieces that go between the graphics. Graphics themselves would provide small scratch protection to paint but not rock chips.

3. Graphics can be removed, vehicle can be PPFed and then graphics could be put back over top of PPF. This option would cost significantly more. Option 1 and 2 are free.

I chose option # 2 and as a bonus (installer told me this but, I wanted to do it anyway) the remote door entry key Pad is Bluetooth so prior to installing ppf on the door it will be removed. Installer asked where I wanted the keypad to be stuck back on and I chose inside of the gas cap.

Vehicle should be ready end of the week and will be picking it up next week!

Having gotten estimates for STEK, Xpel, and Kavaca from different places, it seems the going rate (around Wash. DC) is about $3000 for full hood, front fenders, strip under grill, A-pillars, strip above windshield, door cups, sills, and lower doors, on a 4-door. Good grief. Everything always seems to cost 2x as much as I expect.

I also learned that many shops cater to Teslas due to their extremely thin paint.

this pretty much lines up with what I paid for in Michigan. I ended up with xpel. I had prices ranging from 2600-3200 for the same coverage areas. Chose a shop that had best/most reviews for $2800 and they were able to squeeze me in right away.I didn’t want to drive much before I got it on there.

I may skip the lower doors (it has the long Rokblokz now and I've ordered Archetype Racing full-length "stirrups") and get the undercarriage fluid filmed instead.

I did a partial PPF (STEK ppf) plus ceramic coating over everything for about $3500. My installer also recommended that I install this film onto my windshield first to protect against broken windshields, and then he put the ceramic coating over that as well, which I'm really glad he recommended that:

I’m on the fence with PPF. It’s long lasting but not forever.

And what worries me most about the “not forever” part is not what you think. It’s not having to have it applied again in 5 or 6 years. It’s having to remove the old stuff!

I’ve heard horror stories about PPF peeling paint when being removed. From what I gather, a lot has to do with how it was applied originally. I’m not a PPF installer so I don’t know all the details but it has something to do with the installer having to leave a certain amount of wax on the finish before installing. And many installers being afraid it will peel and having a “come bock” - they error on the side of caution. Remove too much of the original protective layer causing the PPF to bond to the original finish.

So while I wouldn’t mind having it redone every ”x number of years” - I would be majorly pissed if I paid $3K for PPF and then had to pay for an entire paint job a few years later (orders of magnitude more expensive).

So it all boils down to “trust”. How well do I trust that this installer is thinking ahead beyond the immediate job. Sure, I can inspect the final job and it will look gorgeous. But I won’t know if he did a good enough job to allow easier removal until years later.

And, I’ve noticed that the more people I meet in life, the less I trust people. When I was a child, I trusted everybody. But by the time you get to be my age, you’ve met A LOT of people. :D

I decided to go with Kavaca ppf (12-year warranted) by a shop that has many years of experience.

Full hood and fenders, under grill, A-pillar, strip above windshield, and door cups, for 2100.

I separately bought pre-cut Xpel kits for the lower doors, sills, and rear door from Underground Graphics, which I will install myself. And I got a pre-cut 3m headlight kit that I will also install myself. Those should all be fairly simple to do.

All in with tax, etc. about 2400.
