I am new to the rooftop tent/roof rack world, and it's a big world!! I have a 4 door, hard top Bronco. I am looking for suggestions on a rack that will hold a 3 man rooftop tent but I still want to be able to remove the 3 sections of roof over the passenger area. Thank you in advance for your advice and suggestions.

Personally I think the best looking solution currently is @TrailRax + GFC Superlite.

GFC are selling their last round of V1 on Monday. Then it’s TBD when V2 will be announced.

I like that you can easily pull the tent when not needed. It’s only 80 lbs. They offer quick release latches too.

GOBI is the only roof rack that stays in place while you can still remove front/middle sections of the hard top. This rack can handle a static load (tent, people, gear) of 800lbs while not moving and 300lb tent/gear while driving.

So does the TrailRax.

I see that now…Interesting. It does look that you gotta be very careful but it’s doable. I’d say the differences are:

GOBI:
1) has ladders to climb up
2) has mesh on top to hang out if you want
3) I think it’s easier to remove roof panels
4) GOBI works with soft tops

What rack are you using? Looks nice!

GOBI rsck is a quality piece of kit.
Roof Nest RTTs are reasonably priced and in my experience of good quality.

Shoutout to check out https://www.raketdesigns.com/ to see if his solution meets your needs as there’s a ton of US Innovation going on over there.

Having said that, I bought a JCR rack last fall to mount my 23 Zero Walkabout 62 and it’s pretty awesome. I don’t feel the weight at all and I don’t notice any flex. JCR also offers an additional stabilizer that reinforces the hard top that I might try just for additional peace of mind.

Front row and middle row panels are all removable and I’d say that’s getting to be the norm for most roof rack manufacturers.

Btw if anyone is interested in purchasing an unused RTT, I have a very nice one for sale (local pickup only in WA state). Came off a 4Runner but has never been used. Freespirit High Country 55” x 98” opened. Annex included

Was mounted to a GOBI on the 4Runner

I need a RTT that clamps directly to the roof without needing to sit on top of a rack to keep the height down.

I know that would be too specialized but would be awsome to have the rack mounting points built into the RTT frame.

Believe it or not we may or may not be doing this on our build!

I was interested in the gobi for my bronco raptor. I was just concerned with the way the corner rear support goes underneath the hardtop. It appears to raise the back corner up enough to allow wind and water to get in. Also it would seem that because the hardtop is now uneven you lose some support in the bottom middle of the top since it doesn't sit flat. Have you gad any issues or concerns with air and water

Check out Justin b McBride’s you tube stuff he reviews some of the tents he has used. He is an Utah guy as well might even be able to meet up and discuss.

Sorry I looked at the wrong post, you’re not in Utah.
