Side view mirrors whistle

Wife and I just did an hour long test drive on our dealers demo unit. Five minutes in and my wife asked “can you hear that whistle noise?” We were on mostly city streets, heard it between 30-50. Hopefully this can be fixed, I can handle a rattle but the whistle was annoying.

Thought I'd post a video/audio clip of the side mirror whistle...this is more than just wind noise that one would expect with a top down vehicle. It's clearly a loud whistle. You'll notice when I put my hand on the outer corner of the mirror housing, the whistle goes away. Starts at ~50mph then peaks once I hit 60mph. Seems to be a little less when I have the doors off, but still there.

Temporary fix is to wrap the seam where the halves of the mirror housing join in black electrical tape. It blends in somewhat with the black plastic and seems to get rid of most of the whistle. My dealer says Ford is working on a fix.

The BaseSquatch I drove at Moab OffRodeo had a whistle when on the highway. I couldn’t figure out the source, but sounds common. There’s another thread where someone reports fixing it with a black silicon caulk.

Our big bend does it too.

My Big Bend whistled for like a week, then it just stopped. I washed it and then it was screaming at me. I just looked at it and the bottom of the mirror cap was separating from the mirror frame and I just squeezed them together until i heard it snap together. Fixed, I hope. We’ll see!

Has anyone found the fix on this? I have noticed that the 22 MY's come with three little "Fins" if it doesn't have the light on the end of the cap. Anyone know if dealers have replaced 21MY caps with 22MY caps? Dealer ordered new caps for my 21 BD and they did not have the fins.

So I saw this at Galpn about a month ago and forgot to post it. Do new Broncos get this type of side mirror? With the fins? Note, it's also one piece.

I was at the dealer for an oil change and saw this. But of course nobody knows what the fins are doing there. This is probably the fix for the whistle. I asked the parts department and they don't know shit. He actually asked me if I had a Bronco Sport. I'm going to schedule it for service and see if I can get them ordered.

The ones I posted above are a one piece. Note those ones are two piece. Painted vs. MIC I guess?

I do have a whistle, haven’t driven enough for it to bother me nor have I attempted to locate the source. Whistle occurs regardless of the position of the top so I assume it’s the header area, grill or mirrors.
