Ah a two-pronged approach, got it. I was thinking of creating space on top of the top for the other pieces, but your idea of putting on the cross bars is even better. Great job!

How did you put the hoist up in the rafters and put some cross members between the joists to hold the hoist? Did you cut it out and then just drywall back over? Maybe any pics of the install?
I have attic right above that area so I just added a piece of metal strut over the joists and mounted the joist to that then screwed the strut down to keep it from moving. Drilled a 3” hole through the drywall for the cable to go through.

How did you hang the unistrut? I'm not sure the trolley will pass a lag bolt. I was looking at hangers but don't really want it "hanging" like that. I'm using this strut/trolley combo. Looks like it's less robust than yours. Any thoughts?

I used LAG bolts.... this is why you MUST purchase the trolley that i have in the description (page 1) , as they WILL pass the lag bolts :)

Just took a pic for you

You must use the ebay trolley as it has smaller diameter wheels which gives room for the Lag bolt

Thanks - that's what I would have done but I read the trolleys don't clear without hangers - I guess I'll have to wait until it arrives to see. Biggest problem is I have a fluorescent light right where I need to mount it. I might have to fold my mirror in and squeeze over carefully when I back in. It's a very small one-car "extra" garage.

That’s pretty cool! I have a pretty high ceiling (maybe 12 feet) but no access to the area above. Thanks for all of the great tips!

I can't find anything like that on Amazon - all the wheels I can find are like 1 15/32 and that's what I've got that just barely won't clear.

If anyone has sourced something on Amazon or can find something that I can order quickly I'd appreciate the help finding one.
ebay link is right there :)

I went ahead and bought it off eBay - was hoping for next day shipping - but, the one you linked to is different than your installation - probably same wheels, though.

I found some brackets that permitted flush mount but - again - long delivery time from unknown vendor.

I'm still struggling with the idea of securing the track to the engineered I-beam. The flanges are only about 2" thick and there is no structure at all to the "web" - these structural screws are not threaded on the portions that would engage the flanges. Do they make them with threads along the whole length?
