Nomad Grapplers just launched this past spring. I know those in the Subaru community were really excited about them, but I haven't had any personal experience with them. Curious if anyone else on this forum has used them before.

Both have 60k mile treadlife and are pretty light. Great if you don’t need a super aggressive tire or LT rated.

It’s amazing how a Bronco changes perspectives. People here consider these mild AT tires but I remember years ago being thrilled having something like this on my Ranger 🤣

Both of these would be great choices for how a lot of us use a Bronco. What I found though is the most popular AT’s are ones with asphalt performance with MT appearance.

Very interesting. I like the trail terrains better.

The Nittos have two different sidewall choices which is pretty’s cool. Not sure if one functions better than the other or if it’s just for appearance.

If anyone is interested here’s a pretty good review of the Nitto Nomad Grapplers.

5,000 MILE TIRE REVIEW: THE NOMAD GRAPPLER CROSSOVER-TERRAIN EXCELS ON AND OFF-ROAD
I just put these 285/70R17 Nomad Grapplers on my OBX with Badlands 17x8 take-off wheels. No lift. The load capacity is 250# over stock per tire, I double checked with Nitto's engineers, and they are Nittos replacement for Nitto Terra Grappler G2 in the P285/70R17 size. They add 2" in measured tread width, .4" in height, look great, and fill the wheel well with flush poke. There is no road noise and they absorb bumps a bit better. I highway travel alot. And offroad on the beach, and these are my ideal beach tread (I'll know at my first OBX trip in March). I dont want the heavy-duty large-lugged tread for my current use. If I go rock crawling, I get a coilover lift and heavier tires!

I was down to these two (post above) but I liked the tread better on the Nomad. I drive on sand, and while the edge lugs are closer together than more aggressive tires, there is enough space for sand to evacuate. Not so the Trail Terrain.

What are your thoughts on the Nomad Grapplers some four-ish months later? I’m in a toss up between these and the SL Firestone Destination AT2 in 285/70/17R.

I have the BFG Trail-Terrrain tires. Smooth ride and limited hit on the MPG, even with my "spirited" driving.

I'm re-writing yesterday's response now that I've had another day on the beach. I really like these tires, for my use they're ideal, driving 20,000 miles/year. I need a comfortable, responsive, quiet road tire, that can handle rain downpours, feels safe on the highway, inspires confidence during emergency handling, and then can be aired down for a day on the beach 30 days a year. This Nitto Nomad Grappler does all that, and does it well.

On the beach, I air down to 20#, and today rode about 25 miles on the Corolla sand. The 285/70R17 size works well, I never had the feeling I was digging in or bogging. The tire supported the car's weight well, rode well at 15mph in sand, climbed the access dunes well, and tracked well at 30mph on the hard sand at low tide while aired down.

At the end of the day, driving at 40mph on pavement from the beach to the air-up area, at 20# psi, the tracking was excellent. Usually a tire will wallow and feel barely controlled on pavement when aired down. The Nitto Nomad Grappler tracked well for an aired down tire on pavement.

The tread pattern is relatively tight for an AT tire, meaning the edge lugs are fairly close together, but enough space for good traction with relatively low noise. The downside of tight lugs is a chirping noise in soft sand occasionally. My Michelin's did that on my previous F150, and the Sheriff I was talking beach driving with, has the same occasional chirping on his Tahoe with Michelin's while on beach patrol. We both believe it to be the sound of evacuating sand, part of wanting a wide tire excellent on both highway and beach.

I'm enjoying these Nitto Nomad Grapplers quite a bit. A great sand & highway tire. I cant speak to mud and rock crawling, but for my use, these are great!

Would you happen to have any pics of the trail terrain tires on your rig? Thinking of pulling the trigger on a set (285/70/17 on stock big bend wheels). They seem to fit the buck for me.

This will be an unpopular post.

The Falken AT3w work so well, there's no reason to go less aggressive than those.

Cheers. 🍻
