Actually it was designed for emergency braking also per page 208 of the owners manual.
Can you use it as an emergency brake, sure. Was it designed to give you the same amount of control as a hand brake while braking for an emergency at high way speeds? No. That’s all I meant. Its only purpose in an emergency situation is to slow you down. Its main purpose however is just a normal every day parking brake. Which is probably why they didn’t call it an emergency brake instead.

Had brake failure on a few occasions over the years. Was able to get the vehicles to the shop or home (back when I enjoyed turning wrenches) by using the emergency brake. Another case of taking something simple, reliable and mechanical throwing electronics into it and making it less useful. Technology is not always your friend...

The fact is that the ergonomics suck and, in an emergency, trying to use it would be extremely difficult. It's poor design, just admit it, Ford won't dock you any Ford Pass points, right @Ford Motor Company?

I see it now, sudden rush at the parts desk to get a new panel for owners wishing to orient the lever according to preference. Fords not stupid, it was probably requested by the dealerships!!

Yikes. That’s some bad luck!

Finally got a chance to compare our 2 Broncos. pics below.

Since day one, I’ve always found myself trying to push the button to engage and pull to release. Anybody else think the operation of the parking brake is opposite of what it should be?

The one pictured is the opposite of mine and I think the reason for the change was people pulling on it without looking to open the hood. With this new design it will be much better

My 22 Badland is the same as the 21 pictured. It makes sense to me to pull to activate the brake, and push to release.

Yeah, maybe it’s just me. It’s probably just my muscle memory from older vehicles. Always had to pull to release.

Totally understand how you could mistakenly grab the hood release and pull it while thinking it was the parking brake.

Exactly (point 1) every other vehicle I have ever owned that did not have a hand brake, it was pull to release.

Every F-150, F-250, my son's Frontier, pull to release. I've had the Bronco 3 months and I still try to pull it instead of push it.

Honestly, I think it's the worst "feature" on the Bronco. I would much prefer a hand brake like on a Mustang.

On point 2, my arms are way not long enough to reach the hood pull when actually sitting in the seat.
