Just bought a. Starlink Mini for use while remote camping and also for the next time a hurricane blows through Houston and our internet connection goes down for a week.

So far I’m very impressed. I’m using it to use it to post this message!

After watching U-Tube videos regarding mobile use through glass sun roofs, I wondered if it would receive through the composite top (MIC top).
Stationary, it seems to work without issues even though it is not optimally aligned. Haven’t tried it while in motion yet.

I put one in a couple of weeks ago and just leave it on the rear power point set to 30 minute time out - works great in motion - just watch out for trees / overpasses. And I love having it at restaurants of all things - never even thought of that

I have a rally top for what it’s worth - goes right through the fiberglass, and I get almost the same speeds as I do with my Gen 1 dish mounted at home

Also I’ll tag the Revolink bracket - nice kit that works extremely well!

Nice! I assume these are weather proof/suitable for outdoor use?
Weatherized yes. They aren't terribly sturdy but depending on how/what you plug them into the dish itself has splash-tight electrical fittings and would live through the rain.

For what it worth, the Starlink Mini is self contained. You just power it and then log on to the WiFi it generates.

A 12 VDC adapter is sold and it will also work off of USB-C that is more than 45 watts. Normal power consumption is around 20 watts. Boot up power is around 40 watts.

Leaving for Big Bend Ranch SP - from Houston - on the 25th with a similar setup. Used a roof attic. My main connection test will be if it works for WiFi calling off iPhone for emergency. That’s more of a Starlink test, nothing to do with Bronco.

I love going out to BBRSP. In the two years since I’ve had the Bronco, I‘ve been out there 5 or 6 times. I‘ve always gone solo and have used a Garmin InReach Mini for texting communication. Can’t wait to try out the Starlink out there. I’m pretty sure you will be able to make video calls, transmit photos, or do any internet browsing you want. I’ll probably go out there again in March.

Which areas/campsites will you be going to?

El Solitario solo 4 nights. With a sat phone and a Zoleo tracker for important/emergency Comms.

As an aside, then to Palo Duro Canyon/Merus for 3 Nights; after so many recent mods to the Bronco, we decided we owe Texas a Big Trip, before going to Moab again.

Tres Papalotes? Nice spot. Is the “Road To Nowhere” open yet? Have you been to the Solitario Bar?

I recently purchased an Starlink Mini and bought an Anker 300 dc and/or a Jackery 100 to run in between/pass thru to keep it up for longer periods. I was looking to use for longer car trips and a hurricane/emergency situation.

Having a 2D doesn’t allow for the attic, but I was going to hit up a local fab shop and see if they can make a bracket that uses the two bolt holes on the side of the rollbar. I have an idea, now I have to see if they can make it work.

Nowhere is closed; we are near that bar - near in local terms, 45 minutes - and will check it out today.

Using the Starlink Mini here, but also I just noticed the iPhone does sat comms for texting. Looked it up, free for two years on a newer model.

This was the main reason why I upgraded. Black Friday deal giving me a $1000 for my old phone made the decision easy.

But I’d still like to have the Mini.

One reason I was happy to upgrade to the Pixel 9 pro XL, the satellite texting.
