um, yea.
Painted together just to test the robots?
Or because everything's welded....
the velocity blue one shows the best shot of the connection. Sure looks welded to me.

This one shows shows the spot welds.

Yes, I'm 1000% sure the roll-bar and pillars are welded.
But theoretically, if this is body on frame - and you cut them out - the body would not be over stressed.

Not being part of the mechanical engineering team and seeing their CAD models and structural analysis reports there is no way to say this.

Standard design practice looks at the loads imparted on adjacent surfaces and structures to minimize the metal gauge required for the entire assembly in order to minimize overall weight and material cost.

I think you could say the body to frame mounts would not receive more stress, but the body would "1000%" see more stress. Kind of like taking a closed moving box that is pretty secure, and then cutting the top off and watching the side collapse when you try to lift it. But I am not an engineer. I think the cool kids will incorporate the cage up against the existing structure. I haven't got a good look at the side air bags to see what will need to be done to allow those to deploy correctly. My guess will be A, B and C pillars hoops with some center bars (but not exterior bars above the doors) to allow clearance for all the factory safety systems.
