For some odd reason this always bothers me.
Many many years ago when I used to be into the import scene, the trend was moving into lower and lower profile tires. Back then, when someone added a super low profile tire, people would say that their wheels/rims were wrapped in a specific tire.

Now days, I see that term thrown out for any tire on a wheel.
Maybe I’ve always misunderstood the term.

Sounds dumb.. Like stretching a 195 tire on a 10" wheel.

Yes you’re right but in my mind it was used as a way of stating you had a very thin tire
I get what you’re saying, I remember hearing that statement long before tuning imports was a big deal. I’m sure every car sub-culture has their interpretation of the various car/truck slang statements. Just another way of looking at it from their perspective.

Never heard that expression, but I’ve always referred to those super low profile tires as “rim protectors”…

I could see using that phrasing to describe an ultra low profile tire/wheel in a humorous, disparaging way.

I think of wrapped as a general term, but when the tires are thin I call them rubber bands.

The smoothest ride out there.
This combination absorbs all road bumps.

I remember hearing the term back in the mid 80s.
A bit before the import scene or rubber band tires.
Since then I have seen it in 1960s-70s car videos.
