If all goes as planned, I will early retire at the end of the year, then spend several weeks in Moab and surrounding areas. Probably non existent these days, but if I can find a reasonably priced place, I would spend several months out of the year there...

I've been looking for about a year and a half, off an on.
Wow, what a wake-up call.
It's either a postage-stamp sized lot and a decent house for 500K or it's 80 acres of desert scrub 2 hours away from anything, with no road access (surrounded by BLM land on all 4 sides) and no water for a ridiculously small amount of money.

Yep, I've been looking for a couple of years. When I first started going to Moab in the early 90s, land/housing was reasonable. Then I guess the secret got out and everything exploded. I had a friend who inherited one of the last homes built in a rock (not allowed anymore) and he sold it for ~$350k if I remember correctly - it was nice, around 2000-2500sf. It would probably go for $2-3,000,000 today.
