As long as the bumpers are the same... I am suddenly much less inclined to think that little thing is worth $600.

Its like $150 on most things so I figured it was some big elaborate assembly.

There will be Plug-N-Play Harnesses from the aftermarket. Just have to give the aftermarket a little bit of time.

Here's a link to Etrailer.com for a harness for the 2021 Ranger: https://www.etrailer.com/t1-2021_Ford_Ranger.htm?&Redirect=8
E-trailer rocks!!!
I spent less than 400 bucks for everything for my Nissan frontier which was all plug-and-play.
I made that statement back on Nov. 9th 2020. There have been some new information reviled since then, so it "might" not be this simple. We can only hope.

Yeah I've seen a few people report that there isn't a separate harness, the trailer wiring goes right into the main loom. I didn't look for myself when i had the chance so I can't confirm.

So perhaps order the trailer wiring kit that's in the accessory guide if we plan on getting an aftermarket hitch?

I would sure like to see some clarification at least. I've also seen it said that the accessory guide wiring is only a 4 pin harness instead of the 4/7.

The wiring is my only worry. I will definitely want plug and play. The factory hitch just isn't what I was looking for. I hate to even type this, because it makes people crazy, but I will be looking for a "real" class III hitch as I will occasionally trailer my boat that will exceed the class II rating of the factory hitch.

The only concern that I would have is the gearing unless you are getting the sasquatch.
Taking the tire sizes into account, the effective gear is basically the same across the board.
The biggest difference is the higher gearing of the auto or v6(3.73) vs the manual 4 (4.42)... assuming base 2-door.
Even at that, maxed at 3500 lbs, the 3.73s will be fine

Isn't that what the Ranger runs on similar size tires?

I have towed a lot of 4 wire trailers over the decades, never actually towed one with a 7 pin or brake controller. So, I figure I will be perfectly adequately served with an aftermarket hitch and 4-pin harness. I also expect that will cost me under $150 from etrailer.

If I ever need to tow a trailer with electric brakes I can buy a brake controller for the wife's F-150

I think that is correct.
I almost said that, but wasn't certain and didn't care to look it up.
