Unhealthy Start Up Noise

I have a ‘21 Wildtrak with 5k on the clock. I recently noticed an odd noise at start up when the truck has been sitting for a bit. Turn volume up and let me know if anyone else has experienced this.

Did you install a diesel? JK. That doesn't sound bueno, I would check oil level asap. That is a sound rockers made back in the day when not lubricated (Low on oil). Shoot, It's under warranty, get Ford to come pick it up!

That was my first thought, diesel. But no, does not sound good.

I would take that thing right to the dealer.

It’s cam phaser rattle. Unfortunately it’s common on a lot of Ford engines. The phasers will need to be replaced.

Sounds similar to the filler car I'm driving. 2008 Accord 6 cylinder. The exhaust fell apart yesterday

Called dealer today and they said will need the car for 4-6 days to diagnose. No loaner offered. In the case that it is a lengthy repair it would then be up to ford if they would offer a rental? Is this normal dealer behavior?

Your cam phasors are toast. Dealer will have to pull the engine and swap all 4 out.

It'll slowly get worse until you have it fixed. I just went through this with a Badlands w/2.7. Took 4 days to get it back.

The good news is that my Bronco was MUCH faster after I got it back. Whatever caused the cam phasors to fail also was robbing me of engine power.

Yes, most use a similar design. It’s been a problem for years and Ford still can’t figure it out

I've got a low mileage (50k) 2018 F150 with the 2.7l ecoboost that also had that cam phaser issue. It took a week to have fixed at dealership and it's definitely running better now. Surprised that they've not corrected it yet at the factory and still putting that motor out with a known issue.

They were never an issue in my SVT Focus... 7200 rpm all day long.
