When I programmed my Yaesu radios I put the GMRS freqs in memory channels 001-040 and the ham bands far away from them in the 300-400 memories. Haven't had any issues so far.
I assume you can also label the channels, eg GMRS1, GMRS2 etc to make them easy to identify. That correct?

In the software I've used on the ham and GMRS radios I have, 100% yes. That is my go-to, no way am I going to remember frequency numbers!

Curious if anyone has installed 2 radios in their vehicle, one for vhf and one for gmrs. If so, would love to see where you mounted each of them.
Plenty of posts here about mounting radios, I going with Midland GMRS mounted under the console,Only the one for now.

I haven't used Yaesu's software but can say the RT Systems programmers work very well, worth the $25 license. I wouldn't bother with RT's cables as I found it much faster to enter your freqs and settings on a computer, write to a micro sd card and move the sd card to the radio to read.
Good to know about this software. I have not programmed mine at all. We mostly just use one channel which it stays on anyway but good to know this software is out there.

The SD programming sounds super easy

Since mine is mounted behind the glovebox on a Mountains2Metal plate, it’s nearly impossible to get to the SD card slot. I just left a programming cable plugged into it and ran it into the glovebox for easy access If I ever needed to re-program.

Really like your install!

theres some great info in here, I need to get a VHF solution on top of my GMRS already. Most all of the adventure / raptor groups run VHF.

im looking at the Icom F5021 and Kenwood NX-1700 currently. Im still trying to see if there is any solution to not having to have the ugly handset, like a push to talk button and externally mounted mic (no i dont want a headset either). i like a clean cabin, dont like seeing hanging wires and such). And on high speed desert runs that handheld wire flaps around which is annoying,

Yes thats exactly it, but does it work with the 5021?
Sorry, don’t know. It is supposed to work with the 5100, which is a dual band model I considered.

Maybe someone on here that knows more about the ICOM radios can weigh in.

The same setup here. Works great
My favorite part is my ZR2 also has a radio set up inside the cabin but thats a Kenwood. Just as good as the Yaesu.

When the wife and I are in each car (when we decide we dont want to take the commuters to work that day) we are able to talk with the radios as we both drive home for the evening. We skip the phone calls altogether.

I will be installing a DV8 overhead console in the next few weeks, along with a 2M/440 dualbander, little CB, a 4G hotspot, a OpenSpot hotspot, a USB hub and a Meshtastic node. "A journey of discovery" is forthcoming, and will take pictures.

I have an Icom ID-5100A in my 23 Wildtrak. It has the Mars mod so I can do it all. I am using the M2M antenna mount.
