maybe. throttle control would have not increased departure angle

BUT def too much throttle caused a significant amount of damage

Proper throttle control would have caused zero damage.

In my opinion off-roading is just as much about finesse as it is anything.

You will break a lot more gassing something than you would being light on the pedal.

I also think people confuse the phrase 'bumping it' and 'sending it'. 'Sending it' is always a last resort from my view.

Wait a damn minute were they talking about the "weak" links as in the tie rods at the end of the video?

This has to be what the people at my off roadeo with zero off-roading experience outside of that must sound like.

Except the guy said everything looked normal under there and that it was just really badly misadjusted.

Departure angle was increased by trying to jump the ditch. Unsuccessfully. :p

I go out to 5 Mile Pass (the area in the video) a couple times a month, but I stick to trails and typically bring other vehicles along... I hope I don't get run over by this guy, and that he mellows out while off-road.
Send him on Rattlesnake (at 5 Mile Pass) and see if he finishes the trail or needs another recovery.
If he doesn't need recovery, maybe this was a fluke.

True, how far the throttle is pressed will not increase departure angle. The kinetic energy will decrease the departure angle due to compression of the suspension from bouncing around. Think uncle bucks car from the movie
