Those were posted before the “hard top prep kit” was announced. Do you think ford will make owners turn in their soft top to purchase a mic top for $695, or could it be $1,795 -$695 to purchase the mic top and keep the soft top?
No, they don't take used trade-ins for parts. Most likley you will pay $2,500 ($1,795 + $695) plus shipping.

Will they give me full trade in credit for my beaten soft top? Ohh ohh, will Ford sell my used Hardtop?
The parts guys will look at you and laugh, then say, that will be $3,000 to $4,000 for a modular top with shipping please.

Now will Ford give you 12,000,000 Ford Pass Points, with a cash value of 12 cents, maybe. You can hope for more, but don't hold your breath.

The tops will cost more from the dealer parts channel than from factory. Plus shipping.

The mod top will likely come raw and have a fee for paint as well.

I wonder when/if Webasto will ever actually catch up to all the orders. Tney are way behind now and 2021 mic orders will trickle into 2022. But do they anticipate a “get well date”? How many are they building today and what is their actual build goal needed to catch up?

I think as a gesture of good will, Ford should have regional centers around the country that will house hardtops and owners who want hardtops drive to these locations and buy them. The facility will also help install the tops so drivers can drive home.

I think we can give a 40 year old soft top a break. At that point, it's probably time for a refresh.
But a properly maintained top will last at least a decade
