Hi all

My Bronco has done a weird kinda stall and all the dash lights flashed. Then after the incident the check engine light came on. This has happened once in a parking lot and then once while driving about 35mph. It was kinda scary the second time. After I pulled in a parking lot and let it sit for a while (turned off). Then I started it up after 5 minutes and the check engine light was gone.

Anyone have any idea what this is? I want to take it in to the dealer but am afraid the codes won't show up or they won't be able to replicate it and then send me on my way.

Any ideas, help, suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Your best bet is to pull DTC codes (check engine codes) and see what keeps flashing. They'll be in memory even if they aren't active at the moment.. You can do this yourself with an adapter that connects to your cellphone or you can take it to any auto parts store and they should be able to pull them - just make sure they don't erase them in the process.

Check your air filter? Its an off chance but I do know of a few people who've suffered "mechanical problems" only to find out it was an air intake box filled with squirrel treasure or an incredibly dirty filter. Usually its a loss of power followed by error codes.

Other than basic maintenance type stuff like that, it's gonna be hard to know for sure until you pull those codes. The Bronco is a VERY intelligent vehicle - every system has a computer that reports back to the main computer via other modules. A small problem in one module can cascade through the system and you can end up with a lot of error codes very quickly despite the problem being small, so don't panic if you see quite a few.

None of the Bronco problems I've had personally have looked like what you're suffering from. Like I said, pull the codes before taking it in and at least you'll have the data in case the dealer says they can't retrieve them or they don't see a problem.

Any major code is saved even after deleted for several engine cycles so you can't cheat emissions, but the smaller codes can be deleted at any time. Also, the Bronco is very verbose and will flash a message on the IPC with any major systems with faults. It also won't show a check engine light for minor codes typically.. Just some FYI's for ya.

Check all your electrical connections at the battery.

Whats your battery voltage without the alternator running? (key on position without engine started)

Not sure if applicable to Bronco, but other Ford vehicles can show a P0339 due to low battery or problems with the charging system.

One more thing to check if the wait for the dealership is long.
