Hey everyone. I have a Wildtrak which I thought could not disconnect the sway bar. When I went to the Texas Off-Roadeo however the instructor told me that I actually could, but it would just require me getting under the vehicle and disconnecting one of the bottom bolts on the lower control arm pictured below (I believe he said the back one). As I was researching it though I could not find anything about this trim level having the ability to do so. Can y'all help me understand how I go about disconnecting the sway bar on my bronco and if it's as easy as he made it sound?

You don't have the electronic disconnect. This does not mean you can't disconnect your sway bar, just that you can't do it with a button push.

You can disconnect the sway bar manually on any vehicle. It's just unclipping the sway bar from where it attaches at the wheel assembly. This is one step away from removing it.

The vertical bar is the part you can disconnect. The angled thick bar on the left is the sway bar.

I just hopped under and found the bolt you're talking about. So when I unscrew that, I can just leave it be for the trail ride? Or do I need to do anything further?

Here's @Dusty's video doing a quick connect (which is a type of manual disconnect that's easier than unscrewing the bolt).

As far as advice, I've actually never done it (I have the e-disco), so maybe Dusty or @SierraBronco could describe it better. I would guess you just pull the bolt and keep it in your truck until you put it back.

Mine wasn't actually a quick-disconnect. It was a complete swaybar removal. Not really something I would recommend in the OP's case. If I was the OP I would just get used to wheeling the rig as-is. It was a game changer for my Bronco when I had open diffs. But an intact/engaged swaybar won't really keep a Wildtrak from going just about anywhere. You've got lockers front and rear. You might lift a tire here and there but you'll keep going forward unlike with my Bronco's former "one-tire fire" status.

In the long run, the better solution is going to be something like Carli's sway bar, which is what I'm thinking of upgrading to at some point.

Well, I guess I meant there was a part where you were showing what I thought was a quick disconnect. The title says delete, so hopefully that wasn't confusing.

Yeah you're right. in the video I did start off contemplating installing the quick-disconnects but decided against it in favor of the complete removal. Probably still a good watch for the OP for frame of reference.

You should fold the link up and velcro or zip tie it to the swaybar so it doesn't go through your tire.

I have a couple more in the can just haven't had the time to edit. Our 74Weld steering rack install video is mostly done though. Maybe I'll try to find the time to spit that one out soon.

You're probably thinking of our M210 FDU install, where we had to R&R the (stock) steering rack and it was a major PITA getting it back in there. We haven't shown our struggle with the 74Weld rack yet as I haven't finished editing that video yet. But spoiler alert: it was still a PITA :cwl:

We simply pulled the whole thing completely off and use the rear only. Just be mindful that if you’re using a puck lift (or longer coilovers) and stock CV’s the sway bar can potentially act as a makeshift limit strap and might prevent damage to the CV axles.

Really?!? Ours went right in! Granted we were also doing the ultimate FDU swap at the same time so that helps a little…lot… 😉
