There is zero reason to get a V8 in the Bronco and CAFE will prevent it.

V8s are overrated IMO-the only thing they offer is a nicer sound over other engines.

I've had two of them and guess what? The "fastest" car owned was a 4000lb Sedan with a 3.5L Ecoboost in it-it was faster than my 2006 Mustang GT which was considered "fast" for its time-and lets not forget about all the "fast" V8s from the late 1960s that can be destroyed in 1/4 mile by a V6 Camry LOL
I will agree completely with your first stanza.

And completely 100% disagree with your second.

I love my V8's and wouldn't trade them.

I will agree that the 3.5 eco is freaking awesome. I miss the Expedition EL with it. a lot

The issue I have is with people ONLY wanting a V8 and all alternatives are inferior to it. I don't get the whole cult behind it. I like V8s, but I also know that the alternatives are fine and most of the mystique behind the V8 is way overrated-esp when you look at the power levels they had 30-50 years ago vs what you can get in the Ecoboost I4 as an example.

The 2.3 in my Bronco is faster and more responsive at RPM than the V8 in my truck and, to a point, in my Mustang. But I wouldn't want either to not be the V8. lol Just like I would never consider an eco Mustang. And it has the same engine as my Bronco. lol Different applications take different engines.

Ford really needs to resolve their cam phaser problems with their V-engines. Nearly 20-years now. Ford V-engines of all sizes having too many of these quality/reliability failures
All the more reason to go with the 2.3 L. Having one giant timing chain is also just plain dumb. Once you get any wear, there will be issues.

I originally ordered the 2.7 L but changed to the 2.3 L when Ford decided to offer the manual with SAS. Has more than enough power. Less than a second slower in the quarter mile is hardly worth mentioning. A Bronco is not a racecar and never was intended to be one. The 7 spd coupled with a 2 dr is perfect. Have yet to get under 21 mpgs as well. Latest tank.

The 2.7 has a chain for each bank. So each one is probably the same size as the 2.3 chain.

I agree, it's not always about being the fastest or the one with the highest hp. I'd concede a few things actually to have a V8. It's kinda like the Harley mindset when the other brands are arguably higher tech and more dependable. If I have to explain then you wouldn't understand, lol.

I've caught some flak for putting a 2.3 in my 66 but it's the same people that love the 302. I've been down that road and a 2.3 is far superior than any stock 302 and a lot of warmed up ones.

Just like I would never consider an eco Mustang.
What I would want a ecoboost mustang for would be a long commute, I'd jump into one in a heartbeat vs a Civic or Camry.

I learned that lesson long ago and have sworn off most modern Ford V engines. The V10 is pretty safe so I have one of those, no variation had phasers.

Agreed but it's even dumber to have 4+. Looking at you SOHC 4.0, aka my most hated pos engine.

because the I4 is working exponentially harder to achieve the power than the V-8 and at 17mpg combined a 5.0 coyote would be giving us the same mpg with 400/400 power and a no lag. I'd prefer a coyote engine over any of the eco's. besides the 5.0 is only 5lbs heavier than the 2.7 at 445 lbs but the 2.3 is quite a bit lighter (ill concede that stat) but the fuel economy isnt substantially greater.

If you are the kind of guy who keeps a car a few years, the eco-boost stuff is fine. I normally keep a vehicle to a quarter million miles or so.

I trust a Ford V8 to go the distance, not so much these turbo things.

Yeah , the 2.7 doesn't need boost to get moving . That was my point.
I hear you. I was making note mine was so quiet you can hear the turbo. Mine is not loud at all

Hope not. Last one I’ll ever buy unless it comes with something other than the 2.7.
I'm with you. I think I can safely say I will never own a 2.7 Bronco. I won't be buying another regardless until at least the 7G, but when/if it happens it sure won't be a V6.

I agree. Test drove a 2.3L auto w/ sas and it was just OK. Anyone saying you aren’t missing anything off the 2.7L is kidding themselves.
