This happened to me in my old T-Bird, I was tooling down the highway, no one around me, went under an overpass, windshield destroyed, much like your hit. Scared the crap out me when it hit.

Looks like a golf ball hit it

My first thought because it happened to me years ago. Saw it coming, it hit right in the middle of the windshield. Glass everywhere, there was just a little membrane between the inside and outside left where it hit.

Oh wow, that is a really hard hit from something. I'm glad everybody is ok, that is scary that it was so bad that glass pieces were coming into the car, it sounds like whatever it was was on the verge of coming all the way through.

I'm not sure if it would have helped with this big of a hit, but I have a windshield film on mine, I installed it right when I got it a few months ago. It's like a thick safety film. I ordered mine as a self installed kit from www.grab-gard.com
