That sucks, I got lucky when I took a bolt on the freeway a few months ago. That sucker traveled about 100 yards from the truck that kicked it up and it had to be 2-3" cause it looked HUGE the moment before impact. Luckily it hit the frame 2 inches above the glass, but man it sounded like someone hit me with a sledge. Left a small dent and took paint off.

Your roof also has damage, check the pic above to the left of impact.
Not sure if it’s damage or a bug splatter. Hit a ton of bugs driving back from Colorado a couple of weeks ago. Will give it a more thorough look in the morning. Thanks for pointing it out.

Sure looks like an impact to me.
About a year ago my wife was on an on ramp to I-5......when apparently a small rock hit her windshield. The issue.....there was zero traffic anywhere. So where would a flying small rock come from? No overpass, no one along side the road tossing it, no vehicles in front of her or on either side of I-5. Who knows how these things happen. Sucks for you and I hope it can be replaced soon.

Definitely think it was an impact of some sort. No idea what or how but doesn’t really matter now. Just sucks but I’ll get it replaced at some point. Hopefully before we start getting rain again.

Wow, that's a massive hit to cause that damage. I wonder what it was- something small at high velocity or something larger at lower velocity.

I know in my x3 it had a habit of throwing large rock out the side and front with my aggressive tires. You would drive into them all the time. Probably took 4-5 rocks to the mask and a couple large sticks.

I have Exoshield on my windshield, it’s saved me twice from rocks, not sure the size but definitely saved me from cracks. Only draw back is it’s expensive product, our shop had a sample they wanted to test so I got it for free, so far after about 6 month the clear coat has failed and it looks blotchy from where the clear coat has disappeared. I live in Florida and the sun is brutal on most things but at least it saved me from cracks, just think they need to work a bit more on it.

Rocks sometimes fall from the sky, meteors. Part of that Chinese space hardware that re-entered the other day.

Or more probably a part, object or ice that came off high flying aircraft. Aircraft can be quite far away before an object that originated from it hits.
