I tinted my side windows to match the MIC window tint. I regret it (on my todo list is to get the tint way reduced). At night, I am often rolling down the windows to make sure I can see before turning.

Pretty sure they are ~30%. I will probably reduce it to 70% like my truck, which has never given me a problem.
Thanks so much for the info!

Kavaca ceramic 85% would be virtually undetectable yet block 80-90% of UV and keep you way cooler. Not all ceramics are equal Kavaca 85% has zero haze at any angle which is priceless and will cut sown on some glare.
My installer uses XPEL. Any thoughts on that product?

I did the windshield 50% (one step from almost clear 70%), and sides 35% (one step from (50%). Also depends on the vehicle and interior color, mine had a light (roast) interior

Huge improvement for front glare and side heat, but not too dark. Just tell the tint guy you want to go moderate
Thanks so much!
Goal is mostly to protect the interior and have a streamline look. It's black on black so any help on heat would be great

Here is what an added 20% ceramic looks like on the fronts and 70% ceramic added to the windshield looks like. Also inside view. If you're in a rural area at night it's a bit dark, but nothing TOO crazy.

Awesome thanks so much!
I will add that 70% on the windshield is excellent!! It's not that noticeably darker but does help my eyes when driving into a sunset or when folks have their brights on at night a little bit!

I tried it on the side windows after using Kavaca Ceramic on another car just to see what difference there was since it was $100 cheaper. Lots of haze from different angles had the installer removed and replaced with Kavaca within days. They ate the cost because didn't tell me how crappy the Xpel optics are.

Oh wow. Interesting! I'll definitely chat with him about it and look into other options.

Hey all,

Getting my front windows tinted to match the back.

Thoughts/feedback on getting the windshield done too?
I Bought my Badlands Sasquatch last March, within 4 months I had to change my windshield twice because of road and falling debris off of trucks. I ended up putting Xpel Windshield Film installed by my local shop in South Florida. So far I've had multiple road trips on and off road amd no issues. Its a little more upkeep but we'll worth it. I heard small debris hit the windshield and no issues.

I could be wrong, but I believe I read another post where there was an issue with the sensor behind the rearview mirror thinking that it was nighttime. Not sure what issue it would cause exactly but it’s worth considering along with visibility.

I find if you just hold your hand in front of your face, the sun isn't really an issue, and all the cars honking at you are just a bonus.

FWIW...AI sez...
Yes, windshield tint is legal in Tennessee, but only as a non-reflective visor strip across the very top of the glass. You can legally apply tint to the area above the manufacturer's AS-1 line (or the top 5 inches of the windshield). Tinting below this line or applying full windshield tint is illegal. [1, 2, 3, 4]
Key Tennessee tint regulations to follow:
  • Front Windshield: Non-reflective tint only.
  • Front Side Windows: Must allow more than 35% of light (35% VLT).
  • Back Windows & Rear Windshield: Rules vary slightly depending on the exact source year/type, but generally must allow more than 35% of light or have no restrictions, provided the vehicle is equipped with both side mirrors.
    • Reflectivity: Mirrored or metallic finishes are banned.

For a full breakdown of the statute or to look into medical exemptions for other windows, check out the Tennessee Code on Window Tinting or the Tennessee Safety Support Website for official hardship permits. [1, 2, 3]
